Would jets work on Pandora?

I wondered about that too. I read that RDA didn't want jets because they didn't want to build runways (hence all the VTOL vehicles), but there are jets that can take off vertically.

Secondly Hells Gate has a pretty big landing strip, an aircraft with either short takeoff distance or VTOL could have worked.

Well the amp suits, dozers and VTOL craft the RDA had on pandora where burning SOMETHING and the Navii had fires. All you need is oxygen (and a fuel, usually carbon based) to produce combustion, a fire is just extremly rapid oxidation as opposed to rust wich is extremly slow oxidation. Anyone know what the O2 level is on Pandora? On earth it's about 21%.

I think the RDA probably thought that helicopters were just a whole lot more useful than fixed-wing aircraft. Remember that the RDA was running a mining operation, not a military invasion. The Sampsons were able to do all sorts of useful work in addition to their security roles. The Scorpions were pretty much purely military use, but you'd need a few things like that, too.

Yes, The RDA where not on Pandora for Military Purposes. The whole goal when the RDA sett off to Pandora was to mine the Unobtanium. The RDA paid ex-marines to run security from the hostile wildlife and sometimes hostile natives. There was no need for aircraft because there not fighting or engaging enemy's with any sort of technology like AAA weapons ETC. Also Aircraft tend to be bigger then Helo's and on a 6 year mission you want to bring in as much supplies as you can.

Also Helo's provide the added bonus of being able to hover. That is important for close support missions which RDA troops would run into in Pandora's Jungles.
