Default why are the hell trucks manned?

We can clearly see in this image:

That they have a large camera/sensor apparatus suggesting that they can be automated (there are references to this on the wiki) or remote controled (like the bulldozers). Yet they are being manually driven.

The only reason that I can think of is that the Miners on Pandora have unionised and forced Selfridge to put miners on the trucks to increase their pay packets.

Well look at were they are driving.
The dozers don't worry about running stuff over or having to carefully back up to a scoop.
Also they are carrying a ton of Unobtanium. The same stuff that ruins the RDA's sensors etc.

Strictly speaking its only the flux effect of unobtanium that causes computers systems to glitch. Generally the EM effect of unobtanium itself would only damage the computer components over time which would happen anyway even if it was being driven manually. While the flux effect may disrupt a radio system it would not interfere with a visual navigation system using laser bouncing reference becons. Also there is a reference on the wiki that there are automated diggers operating in the mine for simple operations.

probably to make sure everything operates correctly and in case if something goes wrong they can takeover to drive them manually. some automated trains on earth also have drivers just to be sure. same with autopilot in planes
There are many dangers on Pandora, and one of the subtlest is that you may come to love it too much.

I do love nitpicking works, even if it means I can't take it seriously. And sci-fi films like Avatar offer lots of opportunities for nitpicking

nitpickers are those people who sit in the theater and yell/gripe/mumble 'this is bullsh*t' at everything because it isn't 'realistic'....suspension of disbelief much?! geez louise. :/
