Ummm, what was with all the standard neon lighting too? 150 years into the future and we still stuck with good old neon tube lights. Most of the movie was fabulous effects. Some pretty mundane and been around for long, long time.

I watched closely also when the AMP suits fired on the hammerhead rhinos. Not a single hit at point blank range. Also, Jake fired his weapon at that big black "cat", Not a scratch. But that scene where the Colonel knifed at the end is interesting. If a simple knife can penetrate it's hide, why wouldn't a high caliber rifle round?? Loved the bugs fliting about in the background. Lots of fun to look forward to in sequels!! Pandor deep forrests are just like earth in one respect both can be breathtakingly beautiful and dangerous as hell...
The link machines resemble MRI (magnetic resonance imaging; tomography) machines. The spinning ring is the actual scanner.
Quaritch could stab the thanator with the knife because he hit it in the belly where the skin is soft.

It's just a movie but the explaination was not only limited, it was never there....if in some literary works and encyclopedia of the Avatar Universe were to come out in the future, I'm sure who ever wrote it will find this topic the hardest to explain.

Hence why it's not explained at all in the ASG book.
