    Default Interstellar communication

I've read in survival guide that sending a message from Earth to Pandora (and vice versa) is very expensive but at the other hand, it goes faster then light speed.

My question is, what technology they use for it? Lasers?
And also, how much time does it take for the message to reach its destination.

Quantum Communications would suffice for FTL Comms.

Note: Lasers move at the speed of light and therefor wouldnt be an FTL based Comm system.

    Quantum entanglement.
It's instant over any distance, but very difficult to determine whether any data was recieved, which is why it has a very low bandwidth (3bits/hour, or 1 letter/2h40m)
For most data transfer, they would just put it on hard drives and put them on an ISV.

Lasers only travel at the speed of light.

Quite ineffcient as it currently is.
More then likely improve as time goes on until Real Time FTL comms are possible.

The superluminal comms in Avatar are but a cruel joke...

Explain? Becuase if it's becuase they're so inefficient then I agree with that.

Good we have a consensus. You'd think they could get more data sent using Q. Comms.

Lasers travel at light speed, all EM waves travel at light speed in a vacuum and every other particle with mass cannot even reach the speed of light

Its beyond technology we know of, theres Quantum entanglement as others mentioned. There are particles which travels faster then light known as "tachyons" although its currently speculated that it would be impossible to use them for communication

Quantum entanglement across the several years of time and nearly 5 light years just isn't happening. We can't even hardly maintain it for seconds across a lab. Not really sure how you can even use it to send a message anyhow.

The speed of light -- It's the law you can't break. Sorry...
