no you're not bad you just wanted your own species to win which is perfectly natural. i know if the earth was at war with an alien species i would want us humans to win

Yes, but that kind of switched out roles. Humans became the hosts, and aliens became the invaders. The real question is, would you g o for the same team if you were the alien invading the earth? Or would you go for the humans?
True. Even if we're totally washed out of any dignity and morals, and hold bitterness and yearning for better times, and had to face an alien race which would remind us of humankind's better times, a race which had everything which we lack and hunger for, most of the humans would probably still see it as threat and fight it instead of trying to redeem itself among the alien lines. Simply because we had our heads so deep up our own butts for so long that it'd be nearly impossible to pull them out and actually see things the way they truly are.
I don't think most people would step in. In the movie, what Jake did was an amazing thing. Though I suppose if you use the Native American fabric for the story, Jake and gang would have been similar to the French Trappers, who though European often fought for the natives. and married with them etcetera.
If Earth were at war with an invasive Alien Species, I would want to win.
But in this situation, I would have switched sides.
I understand where you're coming from there, but you did kind of miss the film's point.
