Do you guys think that the US Military has the technology to make a AT-99 "Scorpion" Gunship?

Do you think that we can get a working prototype?

The more I look at the Scorpion I think that it would be possible to make a Scorpion. Will it be as good as the one on Pandora? I do not think so. I do believe however we do have the technology to make a "Teir 1" Model so to speak. I think we would be able to manufacture such a ship.

I myself would love to fly in such a vehicle. Every time is see the Scorpion gunship in the movie I say, "Man I wish I was flying one of those! They are so cool!" (As much as I would love to fly a Ikran I think that the "Scorpion" is a more realistic goal.)

    What do you guys think?

Yeah , I reckon the US could do it ( If anyone The US ). Steal a body from the AH-1 Z and stick a couple of tail rotors ( countering each other like a Ch-47 but laterally sideways & Smaller ). Stick some Radar system's on the nose.

Yes, possible. Same goes with the Samson choppers too. Those I can see as right now flying.

Well even though my field isn't aerodynamics I have some doubts that the Samson or the AT-99 could achieve flight, then again there are a lot of machines that on paper shouldn't be able to fly i.e. the F-117 or B-2

I'm sure they could do it. The question however, is it worth the amount of money needed to develop manufacture it, and will it preform any better than existing aerial gunships? I kinda doubt it would be better than anything we have currently.

The only real question is if the tilt-rotor technology as shown in the movie is feasible. In terms of the body and weaponry, both of them already exist as the Apache (Scorpion) and Blackhawk (Samson) helicopters. There's no real reason to come up with tilt-rotors for them right now.

they could defniitely do it. theres one aircraft (dont know the name :P but it's the first decepticon we see in transformers 1, the one that destroys the base in the desert) that is similar to the AT-99 in the sense that it's got 2 rotors but these can rotate from vertical to horizontal, whereas the scorpions rotors are fixed in the vertical positiojn (they can move around to make move to the left or right and turn around etc.) but it's got jets on the top to push it forward. Same goes for the samson, and I think the dragon gunship is possible as well, would be SOOOOOOOOOO cool to see the dragon gunship
There are many dangers on Pandora, and one of the subtlest is that you may come to love it too much.

I think what your thinking of is the Osprey, and it has some other technical designation that I don't remember

We probably have the technology to create something simliar, but aren't willing to spend the money on it. The cost would be tremendous.
