Seeing as how being in the Marine he was never in the army...also seeing how he was currently retired from the Marines and working as a private military contractor...

Legally insane, or just doing his job? Most likely neither. He was driven by the same things that drive all human beings. Greed. Pride. Revenge. His military background didn't help at all.

The mission on Pandora was to mine as much Unobtanium as possible, not to kill the natives. But after Jake deflected to join the Na'vi, it seemed killing them off was all the colonel thought of.

Some of his last words were:
It's never over as long as I'm still breathing.
He knew the battle was over, and that the Na'vi had won. But he fought on, trying to ruin the victory as much as possible. He tried to kill Jake, to wake him up, to kill Neytiri, to cut off Jake's hair (and with it the connection to all he loved.) Orders? Doing his job? No. Insane? Maybe. But I think it's more like he was driven by the same things that drive humans. Greed. Revenge. Not going down without a fight.

Since when an Army Colonel's job is to kill innocent people in exchange of a stone? Rda section has been ****ed up since the very beginning of AF looks like... -_- What I don't understand is how people call him a hero. According to most people here, sounds to me like you're saying anyone who fights to survive is a hero? So a cruel assassin that kills, or orders others to kill hundreds of innocents, is a hero? A "HERO", is someone like Tsu'tey! Like Trudy! Like Grace! Like Toruk Makto! All the Na'vi who fought and died, simply for what they deserve and what they own, they fought for freedom. Humans, fought with greed, for money, they we're the dirty nasty savages, and Col was the leader of this evil expedition. Wakey wakey guys, there are values and virtues in the world, and Quaritch ain't got any of them. It's so stupid I can't even explain it, it should be common sense...

Of course, you're right, but any way you should take it easy, because it is just a movie

That reminds me of the MST3K mantra.
It means "Wind Rider" in Na'vi.
