Default Alternative to "Nuke the Site from orbit"

Now I am not going to an apologist, just a bit for Strategic Thinking.

Quarich says "The Na'vi live on top of the richest deposit within two hundred Clicks of this installation"

There are other clans of Na'vi and we are only shown one continent of Pandora.

So is Unobtanium is so rare, wouldn't it make sense to move to an area of lower population density? I would assume there are other places on Pandora to mine. If the Na'vi are as low tech as they are. You could move your opperation 200 clicks and the ometikaya would never even know you had touched down.

The RDA could have just nuked the whole planet, killing every life and then harvest all its unobtanium with ease and no hassle. I wouldnt wonder if in real, they would do that way once we have discovered a similar planet. But that would kill the plot of Avatar.. :D

This is over 100 years in the future and humans have the technology for interstellar travel, we can confidently assume by then we would have made antimatter bombs and weapons

A powerful antimatter bomb could probably obliterate all life on pandora, leaving all the unobtanium. If Avatar was actually real and in the future humans needed the mineral for our survival, Id imagine we probably would do something like that

But hey Im not complaining about the movie or plot, Avatar was simply awesome fullstop

YEA Na'vi are a nuclear threat!

No seriously I don't think that RDA would nuke Pandora or use mass destruction weapons just for mining unobtanium. It's like breaking a butterfly on a wheel. I think they would do it more the conventional way - sending some real bombers but even this would be a bit exaggerated. Some well organized & trained army units should do job better than some mineworkers & mercenaries loosely put together.

Edit: Hell what a discussion... Where there's a will there's a way but do you really want...?

my tactical take is that the RDA needs to attack the nests of the ikrans to gain air superiority, then attack the tree of souls or better yet control it somehow and take it from there

Technically speaking, nuking verything from above isn't a good for PR, and would probably be a sign of crossing the moral horizon in the sense that it would be just currpot. Technically speaking, blowing up the planet where we first discover life outside of Earth would be just plain stupid.
It means "Wind Rider" in Na'vi.

Lets suppose the energy crisis back on Earth was serious and unobtanium was the only solution, I think Id prefer the survival of the human race to alien life forms

im with the guy who posted above, i'd rather watch a million alien species die and burn hundreds of planets to hell than to watch humanity die

Well for the sake of steering this convo back away from the NUKING option.

Upon my second watching of Avatar, it stuck me as ODD that Slefridge just said "The richest deposit within 200 Clicks of this installation"

Not on the planet, not in the known universe. But withing the region of Hell's gate.

why not go mine Unobtanium somewhere else on Pandora?
