After another tyre-saving session, Lewis Hamilton made a fantastic lap to get him on pole position, followed by a Williams, Pastor Maldonado, and Fernando Alonso's Ferrari in third. However, Lewis did not return to the pits for the routine check, and, by failing to do so, he got an investigation from the FiA stewards. After Sam Michael in representation for McLaren explained that he (Lewis) stopped because of force majeure (allegedly, a fault on the fuel rig), stewards ruled that the amount of fuel in the car was the responsibility of the driver and his team and after verifying that Lewis had 1.3 liters (not enough to make it to the pits and pass the 1 liter minimum) of fuel in the car, they decided to demote Lewis to the last place of the grid, he will start the race behind Narain Karthikeyan, who was allowed to race despite not lapping within the 107% rule. Jenson didn't make it to Q3. Vettel and Schumacher decided not to post a time to save tyres.

After a very exciting race, Pastor Maldonado in his Williams was smart and fast enough to hold Fernando Alonso and Ferrari off the top step of the podium. Kimi Raikkonen was third, after a disappointing strategy that nearly misses the top three. Red Bull, Mercedes and McLaren suffered a lot, interestingly enough, there seems to be a sabotage scheme. Red Bull complained that both front wings on Webber's and Vettel's cars were damaged, Bob Bell also complained of a mysterious malfunction in Nico's Mercedes. Schumacher seems to be the unluckiest man on the track. He crashed his car with Bruno Senna's Williams after a very obscure maneuver of the brazilian: moving twice when he braked, to add insult to injury for the 7-times World Champion, the FiA has handed a penalty of five grid places to the Mercedes man. Again, McLaren had trouble with Lewis Hamilton's pit stops, in the exact same place: left rear tyre, replays showed that the mechanic left the wheel gun under the wheel and Hamilton stepped on it as he left the pits, a notorious jump alerted the driver of something wrong, however, Lewis was the man that made most places, starting last and finishing eighth, behind Nico but just ahead Jenson Button, who was struggling with tyres and balance during the whole race.

The party ambient at Williams was suddenly interrupted after an explosion in their garage started a serious fire, just one hour after the trophy ceremony: four mechanics were injured but, fortunately, not severely and were taken to a local hospital as a precaution. As a side note, every team went to help Williams, despite the incidents in the race.

The jewel of Formula One is just a few hours to begin. Monaco, the most glamorous and respected circuits in F1's calendar has been in the category since 1950 and is, along with Silverstone, Indianapolis and the old Spa Francorchamps, the place where the category was born. In its narrow streets, surrounded with the elegance of the Harbor and the Casino, the pilots have one of the most challenging circuits in the whole season. Virtually with no runoff areas, a one millimeter error can end any drivers race with no mercy at all. Following five races with five different winners this season, and a weather forecast of rain during the race, Monaco promises to be one of the most exciting races in 2012.

As is custom in Monaco, the first two practices were run yesterday (the streets are opened in Friday for the public), though both were interrupted by the rain. It is impossible to make a clear prediction of who is going to win, but Lotus seems to be the team to beat here. Watch the Mercedes, they have a quite strong mechanical grip that suits this kind of circuits.

This has to be one of the craziest seasons ever! Michael Schumacher made the fastest time in Q3, giving him P1, but for his disgrace, he will start sixth due a penalty given to him for crashing Senna at Barcelona.

Mercedes really needs to take a draconian decision with Michael's engineers and technicians, he was going to fight for 4th or 5th place until the fuel pressure dropped. McLaren is in exactly the same situation with Jenson. Overall, the trend is already revealing: Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari are to fight for the top spots. McLaren really needs Ron Dennis back and Romain Grosjean is in desperate need of a restriction order to keep him a kilometer away from Schumi.
