It has long been known that an African bird known as the honeyguide leads badgers to bees' nests, where the badger tears the nest apart to eat the honey. The badger always leaves more than enough for the honeyguide.
Now it has been learned that the honeyguide has a similar relationship with the Boran people of Kenya. When the bird has found a bees' nest, it will alert the Boran, bidding them to follow it to the honey site. On the other hand, if the Boran want to know where honey is, they know how to whistle and call for a honeyguide.
The honeyguide also calls to the people so that they know which way to go. When the Boran reach the honey, they always make sure that they leave some for the honeyguide. Researchers also reported that they saw honeyguides scouting out bees' nests at night so that they had good sites to lead the Boran to the next day

Trying to stay on focus as this thread speaks of the bond betwean humans and animals , In Creating Avatar James Cameron wanted a way to explain to our people the inner bond we have to each other and the web of life , This has many names but they are very hard for our people to realy "grasp" as we have chosen to Disconnect from this understanding and we simply have no reffrence of this inner connective bond with all living beings, its there but sleeps in most of our people as we have chosen to rise above
what some call our primal inner understanding "of our connection and sence of place in the world the problem is we humans "need this connection" to build our foundation and roots in our place in humanity and the system we follow says we are "above" all other living things looking down on them from above we are the masters of nature "seperate" and above all the "animals and plants below us"
Beleving it in most cases the bond to be spiritual myth drove a "sence of seperation" into the roots of our humanity ,we where told by our cultural and religious doctrine that "We are seperate" We can all clearly see where this has lead humanity, this world view, Avatar presents the world view of a people that did not "disconnect". This view "Mirrors" as a whole that of a people that "see" themselves as a part of nature and know there very lives and the generations to come depend on there deep respect and care
for our "living world" they hold themselves "accountable" for there actions and listen to the wisdom of there Ancestors of course like any humans they are not without flaws
but as a whole they hold an understanding or world view that they are all Connected or bonded to the living world, A good example of this is the "golden thread" representing the symbolic umbilical cord tying all living beings together and representing the "bond" to one another. science is just starting to grasp the fact that at a sublime level we may be far more "connected" then we think, and that in order to see this we need to move our understanding from our Mind (intellect) to our heart .I ask people when they have time to take a look at peoples personal reviews of Avatar you will almost allways find they speak of a longing to re-connect this is because Avatar in there case let them real "feel" from there hearts just what this connection represents and they long for this back, "Wisdom of Avatar" Avatar's Wisdom - YouTube back on the subject of the symbolic golden thread take a look at the Kogi people and there understanding of "Aluna" the mind inside nature in trying to grasp this comcept this video by example does quite a good job.

Tsahaylu does exist, as an undescribable bond between humans and humans, humans and animals, as well as animals and animals. And I strongly believe it does even exist between humans and plants. The fact that we often do not see or feel these connections to and between all that lives, does not make it inexistent. And I adore the way it has been 'made visible' by Avatar... each time I watch the film, I have goose bumps allover when Jake connects to his Ikran, let alone when he and Neytiri connect...
In my experience, that magic bond seems to be independent from time, space and distance. I have been through all three kinds of 'tsahaylu' myself, in some strange way.

With animals...like Christian the Lion, only in my case, the lion was a bit smaller. Back in time, I lost my dearest compagnon, Purzel the Cat. It cost me three months to let him go. He had 'decided' to leave this world in May 2007... and stopped eating. I felt he was so sick, yet no doctor was able to find the cause for his misery. Physically, he seemed allright. So I thought, if I make him eat, he will live. For three long months, I would feed him with a siringe, three times a day. Each bloody time it broke my heart, as he would swallow but never eat alone. Never drink. But I fed him as I thought I'd do him a favour to keep him alive, and he swallowed as he thought he'd do me a favour to stay alive. So wrong! Each day, I felt him say, please let me go. But I was selfish and afraid. One day, I noticed that he had not slept for days. He would just lie there, eyes wide open. Stare into nothing. He had not moved for days from that one spot, only when I had lifted him up for feeding. That was it. I looked at him, bursted in tears and took the phone to make the call I had hoped to never have to make. Believe it or not, when I had arranged the appointment to... well... he somehow got up, very slowly, with all his last power left, he shuffeld towards me and lied down on my feet. He had felt me as I had felt him. It took me three months to understand and really feel the bond. May he rest in peace. With my new cat, I made sure to feel the bond from the start.

It would lead to far for now tho describe an example of tsahaylu with a plant, which in my case is are a tree and a peony plant in my parent's garden. And there is that marvellous soul-to-soul-tsahaylu one can have with another human being. Can't and won't be described here - but it does exist and it is something that leaves you speechless, wondering and blissful. And, for some reason, afraid - as it is something you are not used to and experienced in and it does not come with an instruction book. It's just there and it suprises you.

However, especially when it comes to animals, I'd wish more people would understand that they are breathing, feeling souls like us who deserve respect and love. I'd wish more people would just treat animals better and try to understand their world. Who knows how much we could learn from them still.

Tsahaylu or the "Bond" was James Camerons way of using very clever symboligy to explain a fundamental world view of native peoples that we are "all connected to the web of life" I have mentioned the Kogi people of Columbia a number of times and there deep understanding and ability to "see" these connections , what is of posable intrest regarding the Kogi , like the Na'Vi in Avatar the Kogi have a unique ability like a sixth sence the abilty to speak without words a "bond" from the heart I encountered this in a unique way but I will simply share this story and let people come to there own thoughts and opinions on this .

@Blue: Nice post. That is so gut wrenching about Purzel! “It is sad, sad only!” Thank you for sharing. I think I need to go home and give my cat, Abbie, a hug!

The connection is real among us. We are all energetic beings all linked to the same source. People around you can be skeptical, they are living with a blindfold and cannot “see,” but there is a reality to our connection with all life.

“However, especially when it comes to animals, I'd wish more people would understand that they are breathing, feeling souls like us who deserve respect and love. I'd wish more people would just treat animals better and try to understand their world. Who knows how much we could learn from them still. “

There is a person I consider my teacher who once said, “If you see “God”, you will see “God” in every person and creature you meet.” Now, I don’t know what “God” really is, but I do see something wonderful in the people and creatures I chance across. The time I passed a large Bobcat on a mountain trail, the two of us shared a moment and connected if only briefly. I learned a lot in that moment.
