    Default Video Logging Software

Just out of curiosity, In Avatar, you see Jake recording a video log quite often. It would be quite easy to pull off in After Effects (add date, time, etc.) to make a video log that looked similar, but is there actually a software that does that without the extra work? i.e. Record from a webcam, add date, time, frame, watermark, then export to video file.

Well i would think so, there must be some type of pre-programed software out there just for this.
Because i'm sure people out there wanted to use it for experiments.etc
But instead of using After Effects, why not use a real time camera feed, and use Premiere Pro CS4 to over lay the Time, Date.etc?
Last time i checked that was possible, either way i would be interested if you find such a type of software similar to the one used in the film.

    > It's really easier to add the "logging" overlay after you vid it. Most of nowaday's video logging software record the video, and store the "logging" info on a separate part of the file, allowing access to it via a user interface.

I'm sure there would be pre programed software just for the purpose of video logging if there is I'm not sure what it would be called though. You could probably just google video logging software you should find something like it.

I'd like to know too... having a VLOG appeals to me
People have no idea just how much choice they have in the universe. We will find a way never to wake up

    - "Smart enough to be afraid, stupid enough to do it"
    - "All rivers lead to the ocean, the difference between me and you is this. I'm the guy wondering where the oceans go"
    - "Please, the improbability of the mere existence of you and I is so vast it makes Pandora's existence seem definite. Regardless... Probability can suck it, I'll do what I want."
    - "We need stories as much as they need us... and that's really saying something considering they depend entirely on our imaginations to exist."
    - "No matter where I go in life people are constantly using the phrase "Out there in the real world" in the street, in the office, in the home... you name it. Where is this damned reality and why is it so persistently elusive?"

Timestamp + watermarking would be pretty commonplace features for a program that takes a video feed, think of security cameras. They want to have exact times so they can review "tapes" of events.

Not sure how close you could get this to looking like Avatar's, it would have to be pretty high resolution. After Effects would look a LOT better. Could even make a plugin that could do it rather easily I think.

The security camera software is too complicated and too strict for this purpose.

After effects is the best and easiest choice. If you like to have it static it's even enough to make a .png graphic (.png is one of the most famouse besides gif that is able to use transparency) that you lay on top of your recording. You can even make it in gimp.

If you like to have the actual date and you are working with After effects, it's easy to use scripts that count the recording time...

Oh, and you have to put your image in the blank field... but if you know how to edit videos - the pic is the last of your problems i think Everything will be available as a After Effects file and as a still, if somebody likes...

EDIT: Work in Progress so far - the timer can be easaly set with an expression. Sadly it can't take the actual time. But due to videoediting, the timechange is not so crucial. The Date has to be edit manually. Who knows which time you like to have Things to come:

The Tab menue and the recording blinkie...

I think I'll give myself a try and make a Video Logging Software...
It will be a merge of Yahoo! Widgets and Flash. Might be fun

    Default Video Log Layer

    It's ready!

    Here you go:
    Adobe After Effects File: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/997714/RDA_Video_Log.zip
    Static Image: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/997714/RDA_V...0-01-10%29.png

    Some Facts:
    Resolution: HD (1920x1080)
Coustomize: Timer is set to start from 0, but can be set to any time you want! The REC dot is blinking, and can be easy turned off if not needed. Date and Name could be freely put in as needed. Put a picture of you in it to make it as real as it gets! FreeFont is included! Instruction in the AE file included...

    Sad but true:
You need After Effects to get this to work as you like...

Have fun! Hope you enjoy this...
