But I wear contact lenses anyway! Ah poop. But yeah, it would be pretty awesome. Or they could at least make the glasses look a bit cooler - 3d aviators anyone?![]()
This is a discussion thread about: The Main Reason 3D Sucks inside the Production & Technology forum, part of the AVATAR Movie Forums category. But I wear contact lenses anyway! Ah poop. But yeah, it would be pretty awesome. Or they could at least ...
3d contacts would make your eyes ****ing dry. I can't wear contacts because they dry my eyes out BAD, let alone staring at a screen.
I wear regular glasses. So when watching 3d and wearing the special ones, I put those babies right on top. Haven't had any discomfort.
As for the crying...well..what can I say? I'm a guy and I dont cry and didn't for Avatar. But I have gotten used to taking of my glasses and cleaning them every once in a while when it might not be comfortable.
Thats life for ya!
Btw. I don't see what's so great about contacts. I mean, its just....too many problems and no conviniances.

3D just sucks because it will harm your eyes, gives you fatigue and headaches, and has obviously lower picture quality compared to 2D. Eyes are not made for stereoscopic viewing, since they naturally try to refocus anything that they perceive to move out of the screen plane. However, in a movie theater all images only *exist* in the screen plane, and only in this plane are they in focus. So your eye is constantly torn apart from wanting to refocus the "closer" or "farther" objects, and going back to the screen plane for the most focused image. It's a dilemma no "RealD", "Imax3D", "Disney3D" etc can resolve. In the long run, you might ruin your eyes, and whatever happens to a generation of children subjected to this from a young age only god knows.
Apart from damaging your eyes, the 3d picture quality is undeniably lower. Object that appear very close to you are often chosen by the director to not be in focus. So whenever you stare at them, you are not able to focus them, even though they seem very close. This is another headache-inducer. With the current low framerate of movies (24fps) you can see strobing in all 3D movies whenever the picture moves fast. Looks ugly! Moreover those "advanced" 3D glasses dim the picture a great deal. While spectacular in 2D with shining colors for all the neon-hued animals and plants, Avatar becomes gloomy in comparison in 3D. Ghosting effects (a faint double images) is also often present whenever there is any ever so slight reflection on the actual lenses of your 3D glasses. Ugly as hell! In some recent movies, the 3D effect is even applied incorrectly to the original material (f.ex. Clash of the Titans, or Piranha 3D). So things look downright unrealistic and artificial. Well, if ever Hollywood has gone in the wrong direction, then it was the crazy media blitz they did for 3D. "The future of the movie-going experience". Don't make me laugh. Yes, if you want cross eyed children with vision problems in the "future". Otherwise better forget it soon. Did you know that the studios are actually *paying* the theaters to install the new 3D projectors. Did you know they *threaten* the theaters not to give them the 2D version, unless they also show the 3D version. That speaks volumes about their confidence for the "moviegoing experience of the future". Brave new world. Over and out.
First saw Avatar on January 7th, 2010. Seen it 37 times since.
12x RealD 3D, 3x Dolby 3D, 1x IMAX 3D, 2x Cinema 2D, 11x Blu-ray (5x CE)
Avatar : SE - 3x RealD 3D, 2x Dolby 3D
So much wrong-headed paranoia from Itsme. I wonder if he's one of those unfortunates who can't see stereograms.
i had no problems whatsoever when watching Avatar in both Real3D and IMAX,thought the 3D version was fantastic, and would certainly buy a 3D television just for Avatar if i ever had the money. however, the times that i had a few tears or so,i had to wipe the glasses on a couple of occasions, and the IMAX glasses seemed to be blurry after i wiped them off,for some reason. the Real3D glasses worked fine, and i still have three pairs of them, lol
yeah,i wish they could do 3D films without the glasses, though.

The reason 3D sucks is you have to wear those stupid nerd glasses. Then again it is worth it, all 9 times I saw Avatar in theaters are 3D, I didn't even want to see what 2D looked like. I'm sure it looked brighter though. Maybe by 2014 they will make 3D without needing glasses, and make Avatar even more real than ever.
