Default The facial expressions. [With pictures!]

One of my favorite things about this movie is how real the facial expressions of the Na'vi look. Here are some of the best (I'm limited to posting 4 pictures as larges ones only, click the small ones to enlarge them).

Neytiri's face when she sees Jake lost in the woods... It's like she's pondering "Where should I shoot him? In the head so that he dies quickly and painlessly? Or in the foot, and let the neurotoxin slowly make his heart stop?"

Same thing when she's ready to shoot:

When she sees the gunships in the sky (at least I think this face comes from that scene):

And also the series of angry faces she makes at Jake when they first meet, saying he's a child, a baby, etc:

Thanks to ElBartoME for finding the above picture.

It saddens me that she doesn't make nearly as cool faces later in the movie.

Jake's face when he sees that huge feline creature. In this scene, his ears, wich were up, retract, like a cat does when it's about to be scolded by the owner... this was an awesome touch!

    His face of awe:

His "I'm totally loving this new body" smirk:

    avatar 5.jpg

The "hiss" face when challeging the Ikram:
    avatar 6.jpg

And his "Please die, stupid ball of fur!" face:

I apologize for the quality of the pictures, I took them from youtube vids =P

If you find more cool faces, please post!

Interesting thread. I enjoy interpreting what the characters are feeling through clues like their physicality and expressions. The "face of awe" one is the best IMO. Ahhh..... the wonderful world of Pandora.

And you can see the reflection of the surroundings in his eyes. Very pristine.

As far as who was the most emotive and expressive, I think Neytiri wins hands down, for her depth. When she cried as her family and clan were being destroyed, she was literally wailing, and it was the exact same wail you hear from women, if you have ever watched documentaries of countries at war or in crisis.

The facial expressions are great. Thanks to James Cameron using this capturing technology. I've never seen this in any CG movie before.

    @Neytiri:
You're absolutely right. Her cry made my blood being freezed up in my veins. A very heartbreaking moment.

In the picture I posted...do anyone else think that Neytiri looks way older? :D

"What are you saying Jake? You knew this would happen?"

I think you can see she's really confused here. She trusted him and finds it very hard to believe that he has been hiding this from her for so long. She is looking at Jake and feeling very hurt.
But as we all know, this confusion soon turns to anger.
