Young Na'vi at Iknimaya.

I really like the two young Na'vi who are also up at Iknimaya to choose their Ikran at the same time as Jake does. Not only do they both look quite inexperienced and youthful in a charming way, but they are so clearly on Jake's side, cheering him on... at least until Tsu'tey shuts them up.

The other day when I was watching Avatar in 3D again, I noticed the young Na'vi woman from Iknimaya being present at the destruction of hometree. Right after the hometree has caught fire, and Eytukan tells everyone to run away, the young woman can be seen, standing right next to where Jake and Grace is tied up. She turns her head to look at Jake, before she runs away.

I am wondering why she is there. She isn't right up close to Jake, but definately present at his side.

It made me realize... Jake has spent so much time among the Omaticaya. Sure, most of the time he appears to have been out with Neytiri, being taught and getting practice, but with all the daily, regular social activities among the Na'vi that we do not get to see in the movie, Jake is bound to have been making friends among the Omaticaya. Jake is certainly outgoing and straight-forward enough to enjoy interacting with anyone there.

It would have been interesting to see more of these things in the movie, but obviously, everything that wasn't necessary for the plot had to be cut out, or it would have gotten extremely long.

So... anyway, this makes me think that this young Na'vi woman is just one out of various Omaticaya friends that Jake have made.


What are your thoughts on this? ...and has anyone else spotted certain minor characters being present at several occassions in this way?

I think I know which one you are talking about. I always thought of her as Beyral (or Piral :P), though I don't really know if that's true lol. I would have liked to see Jake's interactions with the other clan members too, but I know they couldn't do that as it would mess with the flow of the film and add too much time. It would have been cool though. I think the same Na'vi is also present when Jake comes to them as Toruk Makto at the Tree of Souls, and she is the first one to reach out and try to touch him.

i remember the scene at Iknimaya. I loved when they were cheering for Jake an Tsu'tey is "what do you think you're doing" at them haha. they were obviously Team Jake

I personally think that with this type of movie, where the actors are forced to wear complicated and unique gear, it is much harder to have the kind of important, funny, or just memorably secondary characters take part in the action. I mean, in lots of films there's this guy, or bystander on the street, that can change to whole mood of the film.

Telling age with the Na'vi is harder, too. I mean, Neytiri's parents are obviously older, but between teenagers, 20 year olds, and 30 year olds, there is no difference at all.

Some of the Na'vi in the trek from hometree were wrinkly. I thought that was funny, an obvious indication of old age.

I don´t think this young Na´vi girl is Beyral. Neytiri refers to Beyral as "a good hunter", so, maybe is just the same age as her. This na´vi girl seems to be much younger than Neytiri, and besides, as she has just become a taronyu, alog with Jake, I don´t think has already enough experience to be considered a "good hunter". Just my point of view.
I do agree of her as a (possibly) JAke´s friend, as they became taronyu at the same time.

I liked this young woman also, and started looking at the movie more closely for signs of her. I've seen AVATAR seven times, and she shows up on several occasions, though just for a moment each time. And I agree that she is not Beyral, since she is a fledgling hunter like Jake. I hope she makes an appearance in the sequel, and hopefully has a more substantial role.

A good point has been made that Jake would likely have made several friends during his time with the Omaticaya. And many of these would be young Na'vi, since he was a beginner and his training would put him in contact with many of these other (and younger) beginners. But even though he was at their level in training, some of them would have probably seen him as an older brother and looked up to him. This is possibly one of the reasons they were cheering him on at Iknamaya.

She's cute. Neytiri's supposed to be around 18 so I'd guess she's around 15 or 16 years old. And the mohawk works for her.
