Default So where did all those sky people go after the final battle?

Yeah, I know that "the aliens went back to their dying world" and we can see a long line of them boarding the Valkyrie shuttle at the end of the movie.

According to Avatar Wiki, each of the interstellar vehicles has two shuttles, and the interstellar vehicle itself can carry a hundred-plus humans onboard (plus five crew teams of five each).

One of the shuttles was destroyed during the final battle, but that's no biggie - they can simply make multiple flights with the remaining one.

The thing is - how the hell are all those humans supposed to fit in that single Venture Star? Because from the movie I got the impression that there's hella lot more than a hundred something of them. And, if I remember right, the next interstellar vehicle was supposed to arrive only in a year or two.

    Any ideas?

My impression was that most of the humans on Pandora were security personnel. You know, taking more people to protect the compound than to run it.

And a good lot of them died in that final battle.

Word. Also a few were opted to stay like he said in the end, and I think that those few were more than what we normally would define "a few" as. If I remember correctly there was a fair amount of people running avatars, and all of the scientists, all of those got to stay right? I failed to find any numbers on wiki but maybe someone else can.

I'm really no good at estimating, but I think there were at least two to three hundred people in that final scene of the movie.

Yeah, plus some support staff would have to stay, too.

One thing always struck me as a little odd,

Can we be certain that they actually got the time to find / bring back, every human on the planet?

Take for example the final battle, i'm quite sure that some pilots managed to survive being "shot" down. Not to mention the soldiers that fled the battlefield.

Call it wishthinking, but i'd like to see some humans remaining on the planet. I mean just a handful of them, having adapted to Pandora, and maybe inhabiting what's left of Hell's gate.

That could prove to be a little "twist" by showing us some of the tragic things caused by the Na'vi.

Small groups of humans wouldn't last long trying to live wild in the Pandoran jungle. If the animals didn't get them, the air would. Those exopacks I imagine need maintained. They seem to be filters rather than an air supply, (as Pandora clearly has plentiful o2, but it's the presence of other toxins that makes it unbreathable) but the filters would undoubtedly need replaced or cleaned periodically. It's unlikely they could do that out in the wild.

It would depend on how many spare exopacks they had. if we had small groups of humans still living at hell's gate then they might have the equipment to maintain them. Now if they can still manage to produce exopacks with stereolithography (i.e. equipment is still funactional) with the few remaining (at least until the supply of raw materials at the base runs out), then they could last a year or two.

I think they are still in orbit around Pandora and they will be in the sequel, too. The Venture Star can't handle the sheer numbers of people, so they have to stay and try to survive in orbit or in one of the other moons. That way, Selfridge could return for the sequel and we could visit the other moons, too. I made a calculation here:
