It means "Wind Rider" in Na'vi.
"Wall-mounted keyboards? It must be THE FUTURE!"
- Crow, MST3K "Space Mutiny"
"They set out from Plymouth and landed IN Plymouth! How lucky is that?!"
~ Eddie Izzard "The First Thanksgiving"
"There are many dangers on Pandora, and one the most stubtlest is that you may come to love it too much."
- Dr. Grace Augustine, "Avatar"
That is very true. Look at Wainfleet and Fike. Throughout the film we are made aware of their immorality, but they aren't just are what they are. There is an excellent chance they are immoral and callous as a result of being psychologically snapped by protracted conflict, like our (USA) own troops in Vietnam as you mention - and there is evidence Cameron intended them as an allegory for these troops. Why is Wainfleet yelling "GET SOME!" from behind a door gun on a chopper about to fire rockets into a settlement containing innocents? Very Vietnam.
I also hold this phenomenon as a root of Quaritch's actions. He can be viewed as a tragic character in the final stage of these effects who we watch crash and burn.
