Humans will be back, they are the antagonist of the story. Hard to say in what capacity. JC has set the table, it is a very broad one. The story is whatever he makes it at this point hard to say what it will be. After watching all the detail, time and technology develpment that was invested in the first film through the making of segments in the collectors edition DVD, I am not concerned with what the story will be, I know he won't allow something of this magnitude to be rushed or infringed upon in any way. JC exceeded my expectations with this one, he has my attention now.

Ok, so the RDA were already looking for more sources of unobtanium when they destroyed Hometree. With that said, who's to say there isn't already another colony under the oceans, ran by RDA or some other company. If there isn't one during the movie's time frame, it may already be enroute to Pandora when the movie takes place. It's a big moon and RDA is a big company. It stands to reason they would want to expand their mining operations in order to deliver more product to Earth. Especially since it's so expensive. To answer the original question....yes, the humans will return, it's what we do.

    IMO :
The RDA has discovered a strange sort of unobtainium in oceans, called "Unobtainium Plus". 1kg of unobtainium plus = 5kg of "normal" unobtainium, so 100M$ per kg ! So the RDA decided to go back on Pandora.
Jake and Neytiri are exploring the ocean, discover new animals, some Na'vi village, yes some Na'vi can live in the water. The ocean Na'vi see the RDA destroying the ocean ! -> BATTLE :D
BUT strange phenomenon happens and is destroying the ocean then after Pandora. The RDA and the Na'vi work together to defend Pandora ! We can see Neytiri using an AMP for example lol
At the end, the RDA decided that they should not stay here. Moreover it is too expensive to get the Unobtainium Plus. The RDA go back to Earth. End of Avatar 2

Conclusion : the humans will return !
