    Default The Climactic Moment...

At the climax of the movie Quaritch has a knife at Jake's throat and Neytiri shoots Quaritch and saves Jake. Yay! It's marvelous, but every time I watch that scene with Jake dangling a few feet away from Quaritch and Quaritch slowly taking the knife and putting it against Jake's throat I have to ask the question:

Why doesn't Jake just punch Quaritch in the head?

I mean he's right there. And yeah, he's using his hands to hang onto the AMP suit to take weight off his queue, but Quaritch is about to kill him! Just one quick punch with his avatar-strength and Quaritch is either dead or unconscious. Problem solved

It's far more dramatic the other way, but still...

Jake's human body was being exposed to the Pandoran atmosphere and he could barely maintain the link with his Avatar. Between inhaling poisonous gases in one body and being held off the ground by his queue in the other, it's amazing he was still conscious.

^ that....... and the fact that he would have had to lean into the knife to punch Quaritch, which in turn would have also killed him

Well, not really. Jake's arms are six feet long, while Quaritch's are three.

well, i guess, but still that knife was very close to his jugular, moving even the slightest might have proved fatal....... But i agree if jake would have been conscious enough he probably could have just popped quaritch right in the jaw

Maybe you're right... But i think it's right the way it happened, not only for the climax and the drama,James Cameron thought of every millisecond in the film, not a glitch not a mistake, so if that's what happened, it's right, it's too easy to just say he could have hit him in the face and boom... As others said, he could hardly keep the link going, he couldn't breathe, he was exhausted, wounded and held by his queue, which is vital for a Na'vi.

I agree that the movie version was the right way to go. No doubt about that! It's just that whenever I watch it and get to that point I get this image of a "Three Stooges moment" with Jake suddenly pulling up Quaritch's mask and doinking him in the eyes with his fingers

    lol

I think it comes down to Jake being in extreme pain, his real body beginning to suck hydrogen sulfide/carbon dioxide and the shock of being held up by your queue. I might not be able to fight back if someone were holding me by me testicles for instance!

Hahaha Exactly, that's what i thought, I mean i don't know if the queue sensitivity matches our testicles sensitivity, I doubt they're at the same level, but if it was, dude I'd be screwed xD

I agree with RDAGoon. His whole body weight was being dangled by his queue and that is a direct link to the inside of his skull. The testicles analogy is probably pretty good. With everything else going on, Jake had to occupy his hands by holding up his body so the Queue didn’t rip out. Ouch. All he had left was to stare down Quaritch.
