I hate to say it but, there really never has been originality since the first man thought it would be cool to tell others stories. There may be different settings, plots, characters but, not to be a jerk and quote another show to annoy someone but,
"all of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again..." ~Battlestar Galactica
So I hate it when the critics say this or that movie was just a rehash of Star Wars or some other movie or it was campy and predictable. I what are we going to do once we have exhausted every story telling option? Maybe finally go experience life for ourselves? Not too many real life stories are so exciting as movies that's why we go to see them, to be entertained! If someone isn't entertained by a movie because it's
"too similar to something else" then do something else! Good movies are hard to come by because they must break through or use the stereotypes, plot twists, and "reused" characters once used before (possibly) to keep us entertained and perhaps emotionally involved. Simply stated good movies are entertaining engrossing pieces that continue to entertain even though we may know what's coming next or we have seen the same trick before and Avatar truly does this.
That's possibly 4 cents more than I was supposed to say but, oh well that's where I stand.

With some lyrical adjustments it would fit and I bet Quaritch has a lovely singing voice.
Almost an edit: They even apply handprints.
No, I don't think Avatar is just "Pocahontas in Space" - it would be a very superficial view on the movie. With the same right one could maintain it's "Man called Horse in Space" or it's just a plagiat of Anderson's story "Call me Joe" ( which I read just some days ago and strongly recommend despite of all the mistakes it contains). What makes Avatar so unique is the way all this bits are put together and - first of all - the incredibly beautiful and detailed world Cameron created. And I'd like to add- as already said before - that together with all the unfinished scenes it would be even more original. Nobody has the right to accuse Cameron of a lack of originality. He may be inspirated by many movies and storys but what he made of it can stand on it's own.
It means "Wind Rider" in Na'vi.

Well films are ment to be enjoyed, I for one love avatar, and many other films.
TERRANS ALWAYS LEARN THE HARD WAY
Movies are supposed to be enjoyed and shared, like a book or a comic or a story. Too bad it's mostly come to people bickering like little spoiled things over little similarities and little dialogue. Dear God stop the complaining and enjoy the movie or get out of the theater! (as someone who's gone to at least three showings, I have yet to go to a showing where there were kids complaining or babies crying or people on their cell-phones talking; it's like no other theater experience I been to before, save for The Fellowship of the Ring or the Star Wars rereleases).
Speaking of this, I wonder what would've happened if the original Star Wars (episodes 4-6) was released today. Or if The Wizard of Oz was released in this day and age. Or maybe even
