Default To all "Pocahontas in Space" abusers

I am so tired of people arguing "Avatar is just Pocahontas in space." Connections can be made between any two movies if someone tries hard enough. The reality is that Avatar was full of fresh, new, and innovative ideas that made for a damn near perfect movie. I challenge all those who use the above argument to describe how you would alter the plot/story to make it better (and just saying an idea doesn't make it better, we will evaluate it and give honest responses and I'm be willing to bet we won't find a single storyline superior to what we watched in theaters) The movie was the way it was not because it was copied from pocahontas, but because it was the best way for the story to be told.

No, it is Pocahontas in Space but honestly I loved Avatar. They took a great idea and made it better. There is no problem with redoing a plot, you just have to be sure to bring something new to it. Avatar does this with the beautiful setting and fantastic characters.

No sense in arguing with the haters.

99% of movies play upon well-worn themes and ideas -- most of the good ones manage to put a new wrinkle here or there. People trashed out movies like "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones" for the same thing, and there's no denying their place as great works of cinema and influential movies.

Same Avatar is such an original movie and that's the reason its so amazing

I think $1.5 billion in 3 weeks speaks for itself

It's the best and most meaningful stories that we, as a species capable of telling stories at all, holds onto the strongest. There are always similarities, because many of the core ideas that are in our oldest and most treasured stories are the ones that hit "closest to home" and resonate.

It pretty much is "Pocahontas" in space. Or "Dances with Wolves." Or "Ferngully." Or even "Apocalypse Now." The fact that it makes you defensive is only further proof, because you can see how similar it is. But if you want to make a thread like this, I believe it is incumbent upon you, the OP, to point out differences.

It doesn't really matter, though, because Avatar was an amazing movie. It's like I like to say: Van Gogh wasn't the first person to paint sunflowers; he just did it better than everyone else.

Also remember that James Cameron wrote the first scriptment for Avatar in 1994. Pocahontas came out in 1995.
