Default Would you give up your Earth life to live on Pandora?

Logic tells me there's already been a topic on this, but I can't find one, so... sorry if there's already one. I'm just interested to see just how much people love the idea of Pandora and the Na'Vi.

Please don't just say "yeaaah let's go pandora is so sick". I want to be serious--would you give up your home, your family, your friends, and the whole world you know to begin anew on Pandora with the Na'Vi? Think about what anchors you to this world, what your connections are, be it your best friends, your closest brother, your love for your parents, your place in a community, or even perhaps a passion, like playing piano or drums or reading. Earth can be a beautiful place as well.

Would you live on Pandora instead, given the chance? Think carefully.

Yes I totally and willfully would give my Earthen life up for Pandora. If only...

Having heard the stories passed down from parent to child (in my case, great-grandparent to child) about my people's old ways, learning to live like them in the wild, I would say yes. Being a native american has a heavy influence on this decision. If my mother heard my reasons of leaving, she'd probably ask to come along!

I've always yearned for a connection to nature, by going to Pandora I would start on a fresh, un-touched world. I would protect that world with my life, having already seen what humans are capable of doing to an entire planet. Sure, there are dangers there, but I'd much rather die by animal attack than any of the sicknesses that plague humanity. Nothing is worst than dying a slow death and knowing about it.

No. Not without my family and everyone I hold dear.

I don't know if I could handle it there, I'm not really the survival type. I'd probably just stick around with the Na'vi, and hopefully I'd be safe. (you never can tell with those pesky humans though...)

What's there to think about? I hate the rotten monetary system we have here. I hate the fact that we are controlled by money. Look at pandora, look at the Na'vi, they had no money, they had respect for each other. If you were one of them you had a right to speak! You may tell me that all of us here have a right to speak. Well yea, the problem is that all the smart thoughts are overrun by mass media and evenually noone hears you... SO yes! please! If we can't change the way we think, I'd go there and leave everything behind!
Sooner or later though, you always have to wake up

There are many dangers on Pandora, and one of the most dangerous is that you may come to love it too much.

But there's nobody here you would shed a tear for should you never see them again?

I honestly don't know what I would do. The temptation for me in Pandora is not quite as much the beauty (truly, open your eyes; the Earth is a beautiful place, yet so many decide to "be sightless, in a world made for your eyes" - Burden of a Day) but the connection and harmony with Eywa, and also as you said the great respect they have for one another. The prospect of leaving behind the arduous and pointless and often hurtful social politics (especially for teenagers) is truly tempting, to run to a place where all are accepted and welcomed into a community completely at peace and harmony with the world around it. But, there are the people in this world that accept and love me, my closest friends and family, the people I love. Leaving them behind is a truly frightening prospect, because they are the most precious things to me in my life.

What you ask is an interesting question.

What you go through is doing an inventory of what you have on Earth, and comparing it's 'worth' to that which you'll think you'll gain on Pandora

For me personally the answer is no I would not leave until I get to one thing about being a Na'vi or an Avatar. That is the queue. The queue is what tips the scales for me. If I was to go as a human and nothing else, I'd rather stay here and maybe go visit every once in a while.

But, if I were to be able to convert myself to a Na'vi, then the deal is sealed. While I lose all my connections to the people I love here and the bonds I share. I would gain so much more than that on Pandora. Being able to commune with the animals and the consciousness of those that have came before you. To be able to commune with Eywa, that would be the best. Even if I were to die via animal attack or anything else well before my time, I would consider the trade to my benefit if I got to talk to Eywa just once. I couldn't begin to fathom how deep that rabbit hole goes.

Like 109th said, I agree that being Na'vi would seal the deal for me. Naturally, visiting as a human would be exhillarating and if given the chance, I would probably still give-up my relatively lackluster life here on Earth, but it's not guaranteed.

However, to be able to assume a position in the Na'vi like Jake did, the answer is a resounding "yes" and I'll be ready to leave tomorrow. I only have parents and a handful of other friends and family I'd need to say goodbye to (which is part of the reason being part of a social society like the Na'vi sounds so appealing) and after that, I don't care about any of this materialistic crap I've accumulated over the years. I'll be in cryosleep and the the humans on Earth and argue and bicker over to do with all of it. Good riddens - I've spent way too much of my life focusing on money and material goods already!

A couple years ago, I tried to start a new life and I did say goodbye to my friends and family and moved across the country, so I know it's incredibly painful and I actually teared-up in front of my best friends which I've never done. Leaving a life of 15+ years with close friends like that was *far* more difficult than I ever expected. But, to trade this existence to be part of a cohesive society like the Na'vi would be so different, so refreshing, that it would be very welcome for me. I'd endure the pain again for an opportunity like becoming Na'vi.

Yeah, with many of the conditions in the above posts. But ultimately, yes. Definitely.
