Yeah, The reason alot of deep ocean stuff is similar to pandora is because James Cameron was inspired by those aspects of earth's environment. Then he turned it up to 11.
The oceans are a perfect inspiration for an alien planet because we are so fascinated by the alien world of our own seas.
