    Default Pandoran wildlife/evolutionary tree

    The "family tree" and evolution of Pandoran creatures is something that baffles me quite a bit.

    Let's see... (I only count the vertrebrates.)
    (They are put in an alphabetical order after their Na'vi name, in case one is known, but the flying creatures got their own "category".)

    Fan Lizard
    * Hexapod?
    * Eyes?

    Lenay'ga/Slinger
    * Hexapod (six legs?)
    * Eyes?
    * Queue?
    * Breathes through?
    * No ears
    * No hair

    Na'vi
    * Tetrapod (two arms, two legs)
    * Two eyes
    * One queue
    * Breathes through face (nose)
    * Visible ears
    * Hair (scalp and tail)

    Nantang/Viperwolf
    * Hexapod (six legs)
    * Four eyes
    * Two queues
    * Breathes through throat
    * No ears
    * No hair

    Pa'li/Direhorse
    * Hexapod (six legs)
    * Four eyes
    * Two queues
    * Breathes through front of thorax
    * No ears
    * No hair

    Palulukan/Thanator
    * Hexapod (six legs)
    * Two eyes
    * Two queues
    * Breathes through thorax
    * No ears
    * No hair

    Prolemuris
    * Tetra/hexapod (two arms which part at the elbow into four arms, two legs)
    * Two eyes
    * One queue
    * Breathes through face (nostrils) and front of thorax
    * Visible ears
    * Has hair

    Talioang/Sturmbeest
    (possibly the ugliest creature on Pandora... sorry)
    * Hexapod (six legs)
    * Two eyes?
    * No visible queue
    * Breathes through thorax?
    * No visible ears
    * No hair

    Titanothere
    * Hexapod (six legs)
    * Four eyes
    * Two queues
    * Breathes through ...?
    * No ears
    * No hair

    Yerik/Hexapede
    * Hexapod (six legs)
    * Four eyes
    * Two queues
    * Breathes through ...?
    * No ears
    * Has hair

    Ikran/Mountain Banshee and Ikranay/Forest Banshee
    * Tetrapod (four wings, no legs)
    * Four eyes
    * Two queues
    * Breathes through front of thorax
    * No ears
    * No hair

    Riti/Stingbat
    * Tetrapod? (four wings, but it seems to have a second pair of limbs too, between the two wing pairs)
    * Four eyes
    * Two queues?
    * Breathes through thorax
    * No ears
    * No hair

    Tetrapteron
    * Hexapod (four wings, two legs)
    * Four eyes
    * Two queues
    * Breathes through thorax
    * No ears
    * No hair

    Toruk/Leonopteryx

    * Hexapod (four wings, two legs)
    * Four eyes
    * Two queues
    * Breathes through front of thorax
    * No ears
    * No hair

    Can someone help me clear this up? For example, I don't understand why only the Na'vi and Prolemuris have ears, or, at least, visible ears.
    And I don't understand why only those two have only one queue, while all the other species (except Talioang?) have two.
    And why Na'vi, Prolemuris and Yerik have hair, but no other species we know of.
    And why Toruk and Tetrapteron (and almost all other creatures) have six limbs, while the Ikran and Ikranay (and Riti?) only have four.
    Etcetera.

    Sturmbeasts have also 2 queues. They are rather small compared to their size and at the bottom of their head, thus sometimes difficult to notice. However, they seem to be omitted in the picture of the herd in the survival guide.

    all to do with genetics and natural selection i guess, maybe there were ape like creatures (similar to prolemurs) with 2 queues but they also had another characteristic which lead to their extinction. survival of the fittest is what it's all about
    There are many dangers on Pandora, and one of the subtlest is that you may come to love it too much.

    The riti is a hexapod, and so is the ikran/ikranay, but the ikrans legs are small and is only used for "hopping" on the ground. Not very effective, but to compensate for this they are exellent flyers :D

    I will be remembered ....I fought with Toruk Makto. We were brothers. And he was my Last Shadow...

    Sorry about my terrible english, I'm norwegian.

    this is the tetrapteron, 2 legs + 4 wings
    do the queues come out of the chest? Or are the long antennae something different? There are also very short (reddish) antennae at the head.

    stingbats have 2 wings + 4 legs (hind legs bent back, close to the tail):

    Well, I haven't seen the CE, blame that xD To me, it looks like a hexapod.
