    has it ever been stated that life could exist on the giant Polyphemus? i always get a shiver looking at the sunrise/sunset scenes with Polyphemus in the background sky. so beautiful. *sighs*

    It has been theorised that life could exist on juipiter. In a sci-fi setting anything is possible.



    To me it seems a tad silly for the type of life avatar shows to have evolved on pandora considering all the difficulties being the moon of a gas giant would bring about.

    Well, it's a movie. They get creative license to use stuff from Earth and make Pandora a moon for an extra cool-factor.

    Who says large moons around gas giants can't develop life? Look at our own Solar System. Besides Earth, moons Europa and Titan (both orbiting a gas giant!) are the most likely place of life in our Solar System, even 'our' gas giants are way beyond the habitable zone around sun! Now imagine a gas giant with a closer orbit around sun within the habitable zone, which exoplanet hunters have already found. As long as the moon's orbit is stable and as long it's not too close to it's host planet (tectonic instability due to gravitation pull) it would be an ideal place for life to evolve. Even better than on Earth as the gas giant would absorb most, if not all space junk in it's trajectory. Therefore, Cameron did quite a good job but there is no gas giant of Jupiter's size and larger neither around AC A nor AC B. If, then it may be a smaller gas giant. Astronomers and astrophysicists predict quite a number of rocky planets within 2AU around AC A and AC B.

    Well, the ASG did say that tidal forces play a pretty big role in shaping Pandora. Part of the reason there was so much sulfuric acid in the atmosphere was because of the high volcanic activity around Pandora. As long as the gravitational balance is kept, I don't see why a Pandora-like planet couldn't occur.
