Polythemus is a gas giant, like Jupiter. However, in orbit, is Pandora. The moon that the Na'vi live on is Pandora, which is in orbit around Polythemus, which orbits Alpha-Centuri (the local star) I beleive.

Aihwa said it best. However, think of it this way; the galaxy is a large place (estimated anywhere from 200 to 400 billion stars), so to have an inhabitable moon orbiting around a gas giant isn't all that far fetched. There's a lot about the galaxy we don't know about, and even though this is SciFi, it could be possible to have an inhabitable moon orbiting a gas giant.

Pandora is a monn and Polythemus is the gas-lanet that is orbits. Polythemus looks like a blue Jupiter, but is the size of Saturn. Na'vi like on a moon . Just go by the wikia

Actualy not all that far-fetched. It's speculated that Europa and Titan (both moons orbiting a gas giant in our own solar system) might harbor life.
It means "Wind Rider" in Na'vi.
