Default If cryo-sleep was perfected, would you...

If cryo-sleep was perfected, would you have yourself put into suspended animation for a period of time so that you could be alive when (or after) humans finally reach other planets with life (or any other futuristic event for that matter)
If your answer is yes, How many years would you want to be frozen for? What event would you want to be alive for (or at least alive after) that will not likely happen within your life time? Also what would you do if you got out of cryo-sleep after the time you chose, only to find that the event you wanted to be alive for is still far off?

For me, I think it would depend on my current lot in life. However, no matter what I think this would be a hard decision because you have no way of knowing what the world will be like once you wake up again. If I did decide to go through with it, I would probably want to be brought out of cryo after 5-10 years, just to see how things have progressed, and then I would decide if I wanted to go under for another 5-10 (or less)

I would like to point out also that When I say cryo has been perfected, I mean you can be put under and brought back as often as you want without side effects, etc.

    I'm not sure.

I mean, if you hate your current life so much that you want to sleep through it, you probably wouldn't have the funds to be cryogenically frozen.

Also, why would anyone in the future care enough to revive some schmuck from the past? I don't see this as ever being a mainstream thing, just about everyone would want to be frozen. Only a select few would be able to take part in the phenomenon.

Sure, I'd love to live my current life, sleep before death, then wake up in the year 2850, have my body reverted to an earlier state and live in the future, but of course that's not how it would work.

I'd say it would be better to live in a time you're used to and have relations in rather than travel to an unfamiliar time where everyone would just frown upon you as just another person from the past who has to, and most likely won't, learn everything about the future (current) society's views, politics, and overall way of life.

You make some very good points, and yes I think that ideally you would live out you life until you where, say 80+ and then get frozen, and then when you wake up many many years later, there will be tech that could restore your body to a young state. I don't think that at this stage in my life I would want to do this... but I'm interested in what other people have to say.

Ok now the problem is you WILL NOT be frozen your body has been cooled down so everything has slowed down. freezing someone will indeed KILL them. now wile in cryo sleep you would still be ageing just at a much slower pace. now to your question um i proly would not want to go to cryo sleep until they find habitable planets.

Well in order for me to want to do that I would need to serve some purpose. Same kind of scientist that perhaps Grace or Norm was, but then again most of my knowledge would be out of date.
Besides all that, I would sacrifice maybe up to 10 years in Cryo to go to a place link Pandora.

I would freeze myself until the sequel comes out:D On a serious note I would place myself in cryo to maybe see the dawn of a new age in mankind. Where we change our current attitudes and start to fulfill better lives. Sorta like a golden age for humanity.

What if we do not find habitable planets within you life time? (unlikely I know but still a possibility)

I don't think I'd want to freeze myself for more than 5 years, it would be annoying having to adapt to new tech.

I think he meant actually inhabiting them.

Finding them is speculated to happen very soon (if they exist) with the launch of a particular probe in 2014 if I recall correctly, the name of which escapes me.

I'd say a good 10 or 15 years after that launch we will have either found or be extremely close to finding other earth-like life sustaining planets.

Actually getting to them, though, is an entirely different and tremendously more difficult challenge.

EDIT: I read your post wrong, sorry. :P I read it as "What if we DO find habitable planets in your lifetime?"
