Yes, what of the remains of the vehicles left after the war at the end of the movie? The Valkyrie shuttle has a nuclear reactor on board it, not to mention any hydraulic fluids leaking from the engines. Same with the other vehicles and AMP suits.

that's what i was thinking with the crashed dragon and valkyrie, but environments do heal over time provided the damage isn't too great. somehting like crashed vehicles always get overgrown in vegetation and as for the fuels on board, they would just get absorb by the ground (if they leaked out) and stay there for a while. some of the plants absorb metals so maybe they can absorb liquid fuels as well?
There are many dangers on Pandora, and one of the subtlest is that you may come to love it too much.
True, but if they leak, it could poison the forest near the crash site.
The reactor on the Valkyrie is the real big concern as looking at Chernobyl or the recent disaster in Japan, such disasters take hundreds of years to fully heal from. Even in Chernobyl now, over 30 years after that disaster, nobody can live within miles of the reactor and nearby towns. People suffer from cancer and birth defects still. Even further back during Hiroshima, some still have that, not as bad as those survivors do, but it is still a big problem.
there are also massive strip mining pits, gravel grader trails, huge swaths of clear-cut forest, huge numbers of abandoned mining vehicles,tunnels,mineshafts,lead-acid battery dumps, old tire dumps, crumbling buildings and infrastructure around hellsgate, and there are probably huge amounts of unexploded ordnance in the forest,as well as mines and booby-traps. there are also a lot of scorpion and samson crashsites, tons of wreckage from the dragon and valkyrie explosions, scattered through the forest,as well as a lot of ash from the still-smoldering fallen Hometree. i wonder how many missles fired at Hometree went past it and either blew up in the surrounding forest or are still unexploded and lying around? yeah, the skypeople definitely created an enviromental nightmare. there are probably still tons of fuel for the choppers and big craft,as well as oil, lubricants, engine parts, and dozens of other toxic chemicals all over hellsgate. and we haven't even touched on the everyday human pollution...you know, shower water, toilets, trash, food waste,deep-fat fryer grease, cooking oils, not to mention landfills. did the humans bury their trash in landfills over the 25-30 years on Pandora???

I don't know enough about this stuff to give any technical reasoning, but in my opinion, the amount of 'toxic' stuff left from Rda, ain't that much related to Pandora's Immensity, fortunatelyOnly minor problems may occur maybe, I hope not though... All that ash from Hometree didn't do good either :( Hope the Na'vi are ok

In relation to all of the comments on this subject, it's really interesting one. I have to think back on the great series, "Life After People" that used to air on History. It had some interesting speculations on what would happen to all of the trash, power plants and pollutions, not to mention pets and livestock we would leave behind. If any of you want to check out this series, I think it would be at your local libary in the video section (yes, my libary has one, with videos and dvds). The reason I recomend it from there is because it's usually "no fee" and offers a good variety of stuff. Plus, I know Life After People has an episode about nuclear waste. Should be interesting to all of you.

as for the mines, i think that will be either very hard to impossible to fix. you have to fill it back but how? does anyone left behind know how to operate the heavy machinery (well Max does but it's going to take more people)? and how are you going to get that giant mining thing out of there (you know, that BIG *** digging thing which you see in the far background in the beginning scene when they fly over in the valkyirie) :|

To me, I think with Pandora being semiscally active, the mines would be caved in by earthquakes over time. And I know the survival guide pointed out that there are a few plants that absorb radioactive materials, metals, and xenon from the atmosphere, which might prove helpful in the future.

Most of them burst into flames so it probably burned off a lot of the fuels on board. Maybe the nuclear reactors aboard the shuttle were fusion reactors wich should be a lot less radioactive than conventional fission reactors.
