According to the Blu-Ray's Pandorapedia, there are desert, boreal, and polar regions on Pandora. If I'm reading it right, it said that the deserts are "equatorial", which means they are in the equator area of Pandora, so I imagine with Pandora's temperatures, the desert region would be almost unlivable for humans, except for the Na'vi that lived there. It's also there that the information of Na'vi with differing adaptations comes into play. Maybe in the sequal we'll get to see the desert and polar regions of Pandora, as well as it's oceans.
It means "Wind Rider" in Na'vi.

That is because they are at different locations on the planet.

It would need thousands of kilometers to see these differences of position of the planet in the sky if it would be tidally locked. The distance Hell's Gate to the Omaticaya hometree was around 200 km, and to gather 15 clans within a couple of days would be also an area of a few hundreds of kilometers.
