hey, can anyone answer this? how come the ikrans can only bond with one na'vi but direhorses seem to be able to bond to anyone?
i thought about this and came up with a few ideas.

one theory, which totally debunks the idea that ikrans only bond with one na'vi, is that because no na'vi has tried to overpower or outwit a bonded ikran that is hostile to any but its partner in order to bond with it, probably because of the danger. this would mean that it is possible for an ikran to bond with another na'vi but they don't because of the danger.

my other theory is that the ikrans are totally wild, with their own breeding grounds up iknimaya, and the direhorses are domesticated by the omaticaya

i can't compare with the thanator or the toruk because we only see one person bonding with either of them

what are your thoughts?

it is possible that its just a Na'vi tradition, and that its what it takes to become a hunter within the culture. It may be viewed as something sacred as well...

i thought about that but tradition usually arise from something... maybe it was rude to bond to someone elses steed cos you are using your dingle lol

Maybe it's because the Ikran are predators, whereas the Direhorses aren't? Just a guess.

Haha, yea... Maybe its also b/c the ikrans choose the rider, not the rider chooses his/her ikran. The domestication of the direhorses seems a solid enough theory and the fact that the ikrans do live else where maybe another clue.

I think its because to tsaheylu with Ikran, the Ikran must choose you and try to kill you. If you survive and beat him, that is, tame him, you earn his respect and loyalty for life.

Seems plausible, but maybe when tsaheylu is made, that is what does the taming.

but can this tradition of the ikran be presumed to be the same with a toruk? which tries to kill everyone it sees and is therefore choosing everyone?

the bonding does seem to do the taming as can be seen with the toruk which is totally predatory until jake bonds and then it sits peacefully at the tree of souls

I think the main difference being that the ikran are a "manageable" size, while the toruk is just plain huge. The fact that toruk trys to kill everyone my not be an indication to it choosing everybody, but there are few who want/try to tame it. And the ones that try to tame them may end up dieing...
