Avatar invades runways of Fashion Week at show by designer Camilla Franks | News.com.au



AVATAR invaded Australia Fashion Week with flamboyant designer Camilla Franks unleashing an extravagantly colourful collection inspired by the 3-D blockbuster film.

Models in blue Na'vi body paint opened Franks' show on day one of the fashion festival in Sydney.

Franks, who is credited with making caftans sexy, launched her most ambitious collection to date, transporting her audience into the depths of Pandora with vivid fabrics and flowing silhouettes.

Her show featured rising young Aboriginal model Samantha Harris painted like a sci-fi princess in fierce fluorescent hues by celebrity make-up artist Napoleon Perdis.

Harris was one of 25 models who walked the runway wearing richly printed gowns and caftans and intense eye make-up that took more than five hours to apply.

Perdis says Franks' aesthetic is perfectly suited to the modern woman who embraces both nature and technology.

"This show was amazing - basically, it was escapism mixed with Babylon and Avatar with tribal, but the skincare was cutting edge," Perdis explained backstage.

"Camilla wanted it to be an escape, and that's what we created for her."

Franks' show was sponsored by 20th Century Fox, coinciding with the DVD release of Avatar.

Earlier, designer Lisa Ho kicked off Australian Fashion Week with a show at the Art Gallery of NSW, also featuring Harris.

well i was there during the Australian fashion week and really they present the fashion show very well and all the people were impressed from this wonderful collection and thanks you share it with us in this wonderful forum
