well there is oxygen on pandora, but less than all the other gases but i dont know if the Na'vi breath oxygen and ignore the other gases, but they might survive, but be very weak.

well, their blood is red ( i think) meaning ic contains hemoglobin so that could possibly give them the ability to carry oxygen to their muscles.

oh ya, i didnt remember that, so they might be able to survive, unless they cant tolerate some of the other gases in our atmoshpere.

i think there's already a thread on this. i think that if they were able to breath on earth, they would need their own type of exopac since our atmosphere (in the film) was heavily populated

Yeah, and they would probably die of shock due to the declination of environmental conditions in 150 years...but I guess the could theoretically survive.

I don't think they could survive on earth even if they breath the same gases because their bodies are adapted to the types and amounts of gases on pandora. Also, one other factor is the cynide gas on pandora that is poison to the humans. If that's essential to the na'vi then that would be another problem in them breathing earth's atmosphere.

The atmosphere on pandora has very high levels of co2, mixed with oxygen nitrogen and xenon the author added hydrogen sulfide H2S,and ammonia, hydrogen cyanide HCN, and methane.

Fortunately H2S and HCN are both unstable in an oxygen containing atmosphere and toxic to aerobic organisms using hemoglobin transport systems. The good news is they would not exist in lethal to humans levels on a world with breathable levels of oxygen and life of any sort.

The ammonia would react with the CO2 and crystallize out.

    Methane is relatively biologically inert.

Xenon has anesthetic properties in high levels.

Our human biology responds to the presence of CO2 to stimulate breathing, the presence of too much CO2 greater than 20% relative to Oxygen will cause cause initial panic reaction and hyperventilation and finally respiratory arrest. However, assuming it is just the mixture of co2 that is doing the dirty work you could breathe it for a short time a few minutes or so if you didn't panic, then hyperventilation and respiratory arrest would occur.

the Na'vi would likely die on earth because the air doesn't have enough co2 in it, and enzymes for co2 release would operate at a substantially lower PH. This would cause metabolic ph imbalance upward in them and likely respiratory arrest as their bodies get tricked into thinking they have enough blood O2.
