Good question ^_^ In my opinion, I think they wouldn't be surprised, in fact I bet they have days a bit like Halloween too :D, I mean, the Na'vi as many tribes on Earth enjoy 'dressing up', like, wearing masks, tons of beautiful coloured feathers and particular induments for different occasions, I think they give importance to these things
And it's a nice cheerful thing to do
Happy Halloween MarkD

A long time ago, I once read a fanfic about Halloween on Pandora as Jake was introducing it to Neytiri. It was a funny story.
It means "Wind Rider" in Na'vi.
"Wall-mounted keyboards? It must be THE FUTURE!"
- Crow, MST3K "Space Mutiny"
"They set out from Plymouth and landed IN Plymouth! How lucky is that?!"
~ Eddie Izzard "The First Thanksgiving"
"There are many dangers on Pandora, and one the most stubtlest is that you may come to love it too much."
- Dr. Grace Augustine, "Avatar"
I don't think they would understand why we we celebarate halloween .
All energy is borrowed; at some point you have to return it.
We're going up against gun ships, with bows and arrows.
Where the sky people come from they have no green. They killed their mother.
You have a strong hear; no fear but you are stupid like a child.
One life ends another begins.
Eywa Ngahu.
Halloween basically started out as a celebration of the dead, and the afterlife, from the bonfires of Samhain. So if the Na'vi have a practice that celebrates the dead, then perhaps they have an understanding of Halloween. Though it might be hard explaining the trick or treat part:
Jake: And then we shout trick or treat, and we get candy.
Neytiri: Waitaminute, trick or treat? Did you ever trick anyone?
Jake: (stumped) Uhhhh, never really thought about the trick part.
It means "Wind Rider" in Na'vi.

Jake would have done that. Pulled a prank on someone.egg someone's car or TP the place. Old, but good pranks.
The candy and such is to get kids involved. Same with Christmas or Easter. I mean how do you go from worshiping a man on the cross to chocolate bunnies and colored eggs? I mean you can't have a chocolate Jesus and bite the head off with raspberry jam in it. LOL
Neytiri would dig the haunted house stuff. Though in one story Norm and a few other humans did do that to Hell's Gate and scared the hell out of her, really bad. She got revenge though when Jake explained it all to her. He nearly wet himself.
I think the Na'vi would have trouble understanding why an old Celtic tradition became commercialised into the dressing up and trick or treat idea that it has become. I still have trouble understanding it.
"Eyes on the Prey, not the Horizon."
Some of the costumes might frighten the Na'vi, as Neytiri found out in that one story. Dressing as a zombie scared the hell out of her and Jake. Norm found it hilarious though. Here is the fic that someone wrote Halloween Chapter 1, an avatar fanfic - FanFiction.Net
