Na'vi clothing (and what's up with the feathers?)

This is a discussion thread about: Na'vi clothing (and what's up with the feathers?) inside the Na’vi Culture & Language forum, part of the AVATAR Movie Forums category. I searched for "clothing" and "feathers", but found nothing, so here goes. Okay, my first question... where in the galaxy ...

Default Na'vi clothing (and what's up with the feathers?)

I searched for "clothing" and "feathers", but found nothing, so here goes.

Okay, my first question... where in the galaxy did Neytiri get her feather-necklace? That is probably the #1 thing in the movie which is driving me nuts.

I have the Survival guide, and of the 22 species of creatures in it (including the Na'vi) there is not one single species with feathers. So, where do the feathers come from? (Not Earth I suppose?)

well not all the creatures were shown in the movie so I'm sure they have birds somewhere, even looking at their visors for when they fly on their banshees (which is made from a pair of insect wings) suggests that there are flying insects but we hardly saw any (we only get to see the hellfire wasps). The survival guide only covers a little bit more than what creatures were shown in the movie, I'm certain there is more out there.

I agree. The survival guide only consiste of the flora and fauna that were discovered while the RDA were still there. I'm sure that there are more bird-like creatures on Pandora, but sadly were never discovered by humans.

There's probably a lot of colorful bird species that the movie didn't show, along with some other creatures that are from the actual backstory (such as the slinth that scarred Quaritch) that haven't been featured in the survival guide. That's why a good update to the survival guide as well as the sequal/book whichever comes out first may give more insight into that.

Actually, I saw a documentary not long ago, about this native tribe, beautiful, where men collected feathers all their life! from all kinds of birds, you should have seen the variety and vivid clors of them all And all that, for a special occasion, a feast they have, where all the men wear they're beautiful coloured feathered clothes, and the more they had, more respect they gained, and also the women chose the men with the best clothing and the most beautiful things. How amazing ^_^ So it's not weird at all the Na'vi dress up with feathers, and obviously, we've BARELY seen ANY animals on Pandora, there will be so many thousands of other species we don't even know of, just like on Earth, and more, we just saw big Pandora cows and rhinos, small 'dragons' flying near the heli, and those other ones in the old school that Jake's notices ^_^ Ikrans, lemurs, palulukans, direhorses, and six legged dogs mainly, ^_^ And about the clothing, I think it's awesome, the good thing of being a native in a rainforest, is you hardly need any clothes, it's so hot, and the temperature matches our core temperature pretty much, so it's light, decorative induments. Try and rememeber what Neyney is wearing when she approaches Jake from behind at the Tree of souls when he prays for help, it's like a yellow bikini kinda thing Looks pretty awkward but it's nice
