The Na'vi referred to the humans using various words such as vrrtep (demon), swirä (creature), ketuwong (alien), tawtute (skyperson) and, the word I am interested in: uniltìranyu (dreamwalker).
Examples include:
Faysawtute!
These sky people!
Fayvrrtep fìtsenge lu kxanì!
These demons are forbidden here!
Fìswiräti, ngal pelun molunge fìtseng?
This creature, why did you bring him here?
Poltxe oe, san zene kea uniltìranyu, ke ziva'u fìtseng.
I have said: “No dreamwalker must not come to this place.”
Fìketuwong ke nayume ke'ut.
This alien will learn nothing.
The word uniltìranyu (from unil (dream) and tiranyu walker) is uttered only twice, both times by Eytukan. The use of this word denotes an understanding that the humans were using the Na'vi bodies "in a dream state" and that their real bodies were asleep elsewhere. I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to the how the Na'vi came to understand the link process (albeit a primitive understanding).
