Default Musings on the word uniltiranyu

The Na'vi referred to the humans using various words such as vrrtep (demon), swirä (creature), ketuwong (alien), tawtute (skyperson) and, the word I am interested in: uniltìranyu (dreamwalker).

    Examples include:

    Faysawtute!
    These sky people!

    Fayvrrtep fìtsenge lu kxanì!
    These demons are forbidden here!

    Fìswiräti, ngal pelun molunge fìtseng?
This creature, why did you bring him here?

Poltxe oe, san zene kea uniltìranyu, ke ziva'u fìtseng.
I have said: “No dreamwalker must not come to this place.”

    Fìketuwong ke nayume ke'ut.
    This alien will learn nothing.

The word uniltìranyu (from unil (dream) and tiranyu walker) is uttered only twice, both times by Eytukan. The use of this word denotes an understanding that the humans were using the Na'vi bodies "in a dream state" and that their real bodies were asleep elsewhere. I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to the how the Na'vi came to understand the link process (albeit a primitive understanding).

i'm sure it was grace who explained it to them. when she appeared infront of them for the first time in her Avatar im certain they were thinking WTF is this.... and so an explanation was due.
There are many dangers on Pandora, and one of the subtlest is that you may come to love it too much.

I for one, think "dreamwalker" is perhaps one of the most descriptive ways to describe an Avatar. I mean, it does fit into the movie's theme as well.

Remember what Jake said about his "real" body and the Avatar body: "Out there is the real world, in here is the dream." or something to that effect.

    Food for thought?
It means "Wind Rider" in Na'vi.

"Wall-mounted keyboards? It must be THE FUTURE!"
    - Crow, MST3K "Space Mutiny"

"They set out from Plymouth and landed IN Plymouth! How lucky is that?!"
~ Eddie Izzard "The First Thanksgiving"

"There are many dangers on Pandora, and one the most stubtlest is that you may come to love it too much."
    - Dr. Grace Augustine, "Avatar"

I agree with TM20; Grace was teaching for some ten years. That should be plenty of time for them to understand the Avatar.
