as simple a task as archery appears - just a coupla sticks and a string - there's SO much more to understand and learn. free form aiming sports like archery (and darts, golf, bowling, tennis, baseball, basketball, football, ping pong, ad nauseam) all have one common theme: FORM. the equipment typically plays a lesser role, but in archery it's far more important that yer golf club or tennis racket. this forum isn't the proper venue to talk non-na'vi archery, so email me privately to ask questions or learn more.
OK. I am going to try tomorrow.

The other side of the bow? For a left handed archer that is the right side (sorry if it sounds tricky)
here is a flipped image, the Na'vi now looks right handed and the only exotic stuff is the reversed thumb...

yer image is a totally incorrect representation of how a RIGHT handed archer, with reverse string hand grip would place the arrow - in your pic above, the arrow should be on the OTHER RIGHT side of the bow.

    why?

because the reverse string grip rolls (twists) the string in the direction inward, towards the body of the archer, thus moving the arrow in that direction, and if there is no bow riser to accept that rolling pressure, the arrow will very naturally fall off the bow hand.

a right handed monglian archer at full draw - note that the arrow is on the RIGHT side of the bow ... reverse this image and that's how a left handed na'vi should look at full draw.

Thanks for the image. The key point, rosco was referring to and I have to agree is that the arrow should be on that side of the bow where the back side of the hand faces. This is because if you release the arrow, you will move it a bit and if there is the bow on this side it will not matter, but if there is nothing on that side the arrow will fly into the bushes.

In this image you can see, the hand holding the string is facing the other way. For this way of shooting, the arrow is correctly on the side of the shooter. If he would twist his hand like the Na'Vi do, the arrow would have to be on the opposite side of the bow.

It is a bit hard to explain, I hope you can make some sense of it or rosco can explain better

I do not think humans are inherently destructive - it is the lack of comprehension that wisdom and respect have to be applied to the ways they relate to each other, their tools and Nature that turns into destruction. The lack of these values in interactions between humans is the foundation of this destruction. To change these destructive ways, a new foundation has to be laid, even if that means to shake the building that is standing on it.

Thanks for the pictures, but i'm still not convinced The mongolian archer seems to use a method involving a thumb ring; furthermore i did try shooting with reverse thumb and the arrow flown badly to the left only a couple of times, due to my messed-up release. But as soon as i get a windowless bow i'll try both sides

Interesting sign. I found out that there are also some european countries that allow bowhunting. I do not know what certificates are needed though. Probably you cannot use a primitive bow (and you definitely should not use Na'Vi shooting technique).

Congrats, Hawnu ěla Eywa. You made a simple one from fresh wood or did you use dried wood and shaped it?
