I really want to learn it, but first like omaticaya i have my school. as soon i have my vacantion i will take a serious look at it.

only problem, personal I think it is almost impossible to shoot like the na'vi do without any tools like a modern bow (is that bow good in archery?) just because there is always something that you have a little bit different. not that I don't want to try it and get the best what I can do.
Also I think it isn't going that hard for me, because my other hobby is shooting with a airgun. (not on animals ) on 10meter without any help. and that is pretty hard...

To do traditional archery, a good choice is a wooden laminated bow like this: http://www.armbrusttechnik.de/shopda...21_351x786.jpg and wooden arrows some have a "dent" in the handpiece that lets you place the arrow - try to get one without that. They sell for as low as 150€, some even cheaper if you can get a used one. If you really want to try "NA'Vi style" shooting, you may want to get one that is left- and righthanded (symmetical handpiece, not like the one in the picture). But I can only keep saying that really doing exactly like in the movie is actually dangerous, because the arrow may go as much as 30 or 45° off in the wrong direction because they did a little blooper there in the movie by placing the arrow on the wrong side of the bow. Try it if you like, but make sure no one is even close to the area in front of you.

I do not think humans are inherently destructive - it is the lack of comprehension that wisdom and respect have to be applied to the ways they relate to each other, their tools and Nature that turns into destruction. The lack of these values in interactions between humans is the foundation of this destruction. To change these destructive ways, a new foundation has to be laid, even if that means to shake the building that is standing on it.

would be nice to learn archery as its one of the survival skills that can come in handy (provided you got a bow and some arrows) but like many things it takes time to get good at and currently i have enough things that occupy my time. i would love to do it as part of a camping trip or if i were to spend time with a tribe who do archery. last time i did it (and the only time) was in primary school when the whole form went on a trip to some out door activites place and when it came time for me to do archery i was one of the many people who didnt even hit the target the first few times :P if i managed to get along with any of the Na'vi i would just ask them to teach me and if they refused...... i would try to make myself a crappy bow with some arrows and learn myself, i wonder how far i would get

[QUOTE=AuroraGlacialis;353240]It is not extremely hard. If you start from scratch, yes it takes time and it depends on the tools you use. There are courses that teach you how to build a bow. And traditional archery is a very interesting and widespread sport with many clubs one can join.
So for me I built a bow from well dried wood that was cut with a bandsaw to the basic shape and then using special (non powered) tools. The course was 2 days and we were finished in that time. I still use that bow.
Another course I did not participate in started at a piece of wood, dried but not cut. They used axes to give the shape and then the same tools. It took them about 4 -5 days to finish, but that was partly because they had to share tools.
Selecting and drying wood is time intensive though.[/QUOTE/

Hi Aurora thanks for the info. Yes, i could join a club maybe... But probably most clubs today i think, (if there are any here in Italy) would teach mechanical bows, and altough i don't know anything about bows yet, i can say already, that i just Hate those metal bows full of screws and stuff, everytime i see one it makes me laugh, it looks stupid and just Anti.traditional, i mean that's not a bow is it!? ^_^ But seiin beautiful big wooden bows is really nice andd interesting, and it's all made and controlled by the person's ability, that's what fascinates me ^_^ that's why i want to learn ^_^ i searched for wood types, there are loaaaads ^_^ i already spent afternoons some days just outside with a knife and sunpaper, just levigating a long piece of wood for fun, but to actually make the bow, i need to know about the flexibility, doing the arrows etc... i have much to learn yet, but i'm pretty sure soon i will try and start something

Of course I cannot know about Italy, but here in Germany, there are hundreds of clubs doing traditional archery with wooden bows. In my vicinity are dozens, some have interesting parcours in the forest where they put imitations of wild animals like deer. So there you can then even be in the forest and shoot at animal-shaped targets. This is a very interesting experience. Sometimes they even have moving targets that a partner of you has to "pull" by a string. And they also have large bird targets or small targets like rabbits. And of course you have to take into account the trees and the distance. I love this and I miss it because I had so little time to go there last year.
