BBC News - Peru: Indigenous protests erupt in city of Puno
Thousands of angry indigenous protesters have taken over the city centre of Puno in south-eastern Peru.
    ...
Cars and buildings were torched on Thursday night when protesters went on the rampage, demanding an end to a Canadian silver mining project.

The protesters have blocked the main roads into the city.

A customs office was set ablaze on Friday and several other buildings are still smouldering after being torched in the night.

The indigenous Aymara activists say the mining company will pollute their ancestral lands.

The activists say the mining corporation will contaminate nearby Lake Titicaca, decimating the fish stocks.

I do not think humans are inherently destructive - it is the lack of comprehension that wisdom and respect have to be applied to the ways they relate to each other, their tools and Nature that turns into destruction. The lack of these values in interactions between humans is the foundation of this destruction. To change these destructive ways, a new foundation has to be laid, even if that means to shake the building that is standing on it.

Lake Titicaca is a pretty interesting lake. It's home to the only species of freshwater seahorses in the world.
It means "Wind Rider" in Na'vi.

A Homestay with the Aymara on Lake Titicaca
The lifestyle of the Aymara was one which western civilization cast away hundreds of years ago. These men, women, children live naturally, in unison with their family and neighbors, without the superficial competition of modern society.

Thanks for posting this news about the protests in Peru, Aurora.

I wish the protestors luck, but it's too bad they can't use less destructive means in their protests. Still, they have to fight somehow...
