China Aims to Rein In Car Sales with more fuel-efficient Cars

TIANJIN, China — After a decade of nurturing China’s auto industry to become the largest in the world, this country’s leaders are having second thoughts.

A succession of government officials at a weekend conference called for China’s automakers to shift their focus from making ever more cars and toward producing more fuel-efficient and more advanced models, including gasoline-electric hybrids and all-electric cars.
“The government must take the leading role in controlling unrealistic growth” of the auto industry, Jiang Kejun, the influential director of the Energy Research Institute at the National Development and Reform Commission, China’s top economic planning agency, said Sunday during a speech at the conference.

i'll bet OPEC doesn't like hearing that,lol. nice. now,if that same red-commie gov't could rein in it's human-rights abuses,that would be a good start too. china is the number one leading human-rights abusing country in the industrialized world,and i take every pain not to buy their cheap-plastic products,clothes,tools,electronics,and obviously,vehicles. every now and then,those insidious chinese gov't-controlled industries sneak a product past me,like a cooling fan replacenment in my computer,grrrrrr. i didn't made in china on the box,and didn't notice it until after i had installed it. dammit!
