Can nature and technology co-exist? I think it can!

I see that just about everybody here is saying that civilization technology, agriculture are the causes of the world problems and that if we all wore loin clothes and returned to living in caves it would fix everything. But not even Cameron himself hinted at that being the answer and totally refuted the idea when asked about it. I believe that we can find ways for technology and nature to co-exist and in fact many people all over the world are working toward that end, without the need of going tribal. Materials can be recycled and reused instead of the components being stripped mined from the Earth at the expense of native populations. Aluminum is a material that is 100%, 100% recyclable and so are many other materials. Paper can be recycled instead of having to cut down trees to produce more of it.

The only paper that so far could not be recycled is toilet paper and even that could be tapped in some way as well as waste in a way that everything is reused and returned harmlessly to the Earth. I have the Green channel on Dish Network and I see a lot of good ideas being presented all the time from all over the world and in a voluntary fashion not in some fascistic totalitarian way were people are forced to to do this or that.

I believe that we can become like Earth in Trek or at least Babylon 5 rather than the Earth in Avatar if we really put our nuggets to work. Instead of lamenting all the time, contemplating suicide or harboring hatred and overall desires for the extermination of mankind that many on both this board and Avatar-forums as well as Youtube hold in stride.

I wish people could see what many people are doing and that not all is lost and that there is hope. Now what can you do you ask? Simple find out what companies are using recycled materials and what are strip mining the earth for those materials and boycott the ones that are strip mining and rely on the ones that recycle that is one.

When it comes to foods make certain that the foods are orgasnic and not genetically engineed and not because Genetic engineering as of itself is bad but because the genetically enhanced food beinv currently produced instead of being engineered to be pest resistant was engineered to be pesticide resistant! Why? Because the same companies doing the genetic work are the ones that also produce the pesticides so for them was matter of revenue at the expense of everyoen else so this plants can be sprayed over and over again without the plants dying but off course the chemicals from the pesticides end up inevitably being absorbed by the plant and stored in it's fruits, vegetables etc. So boycott this kind of food and let's make sure that genetic engineering is put to good use and not to line the pockets of a few over the good of everyone else.

Be wary of wolves in sheep's clothes all the time that is people that take the mantle of being environmentalists but in reality are Marxists/Globalists etc that have an agenda all their own for a worldwide government. Actually if you dig a little you will see past their disguise case in point rigft here we have a guy that goes by the name of Tito Kayak and he is self proffesed Environmentalist or so he says anyway just by Googling I found out that the man is hardcore Marxist that has connections with Chavez and Evo Morales amongst others who finance his endeavors right on the island and wherever in the world he happens to go.

Interesting video. Although I'm not too confident we humans are making it 498 more years lol. But it does make alot of sense. I think if humanity wants to keep its technology and live sustainably then companies have to start taking this initiative. I can't tell if this is more of a advertising gimmick or if Microsoft is really doing something because they didn't mention anything specific.


As far as the overall topic of this thread goes, I absolutely that technology and nature can coexist. In fact I think that technology can actually help nature as it has helped humans. I mean imagine using technology to be able to detect a disease on a tree and curing it (They actually do this at my school with elm trees). Or taking a species of plant that is close to extinction and breeding it so that its numbers increase.

Technology is an awesome and powerful attribute of mankind. Unfortunately up to this point we have tended to abuse that power. It is only recently that we are seeing the devastating effects this abuse could render. We just have to learn to use technology in the most eco-friendly way. Reducing overall consumption is a must, including the way we eat, spend, and waste. The earth can sustain well 6 billion people as long as they are all environmentally conscious and respectful of the fact that we inevitably are nature. I think its interesting that many humans believe we are an all powerful species when in fact their are little microbial diseases that kill us every day. You can't destroy and cure every disease. For every 1 disease that is cured there are multiple other diseases that are created.

Sorry I'm getting a bit off topic there. But I appreciate technology for all that it enables us to do. I mean I would never have seen Avatar or be writing on these forums. I wouldn't even be able to see clearly as I rely on contacts or glasses. I wouldn't have the vast knowledge of nutrition that I have as I have learned much of it over the internet. I wouldn't be able to walk properly as I broke my ankle a few years ago and had to have screws put in. Even riding my bike, I mean the invention of the wheel is a technological event because it involved knowledge and intuition. All of these things and many others are ways that technology has effected me positively. We just have to start to phase out all of the negative technological processes even though we may have to sacrifice somewhat in the short term.

I think it is maybe a misleading question though. Our world is not falling into ruins because of too much technology, but because the decisions where, how much and what technology is used are based on the wrong objectives.

It is claimed that technology is made for solving problems. But that is not true (or sometimes only partially true) in most cases. Technology is mostly used for making money and/or for gaining more power over people. And often for creating more problems, so the owners of said technology can introduce more of it, claiming to solve these problems too - but again making more money.

Best visible in our health care system, where medications with less unwanted byeffects are often replaced with those with more of those, even for reduced primary effect. A lot of pharmaceutical companies are designing new products just in this way - and with that they are more successful than their honest competitors.

But medications are just one small example (from my working field), this can be seen almost everywhere.

So i would like to rephrase your question: Can nature and greed coexist?

That question is just as misleading if not more misleading than the first because behind the drive of every invention there has also been the drive of self benefit on the part of the inventor,Gutenberg did not invent the press out of the goodness of his hart he did it so he could gain at least some wealth and notoriety as a result. By your argument every invention has been detrimental and that is not true either.

Absolutely. Our technology up until this point has been about exploiting nature, but there is no reason we can't turn that trend around. In fact, it's happening today. Slowly but surely, people are figuring out that the old ways aren't going to work forever.

Case in point-I made this post earlier about Thorium. It could be a fantastic solution to energy problems, but the government decided to pursue Uranium technology instead. Why? Because the byproduct of Uranium can be used to make nuclear weapons. Now, half a century later, scientists are finally returning to study Thorium.

In a consumerist society, the best way to make yourself heard is with your wallet. Support emergent environmentally friendly tech, and the companies that produce them. Likewise, divorce yourself from companies whose practices you don't agree with.

Yes! But I it will take a lot of maturing for us to get to that point. Which means the people in power will have to relinquish a lot of that power and money for the greater good of the planet and the human race. Unfortunately.......I don't see that happening for quite so time

I agree. There is so much that we can do to help. Hope is not lost. To be fair, I don't think to many people on this board at least thinks that if only we could live in the forest, etc things will be better. We must work to make things better where we are. Technology is a tool only and it can be for good or bad.

I agree completely with this quote. That is why I know of some who would otherwise be willing to help the environment but they are afraid that its all a part of a marxist/globalist plot for a worldwide totalitarian government. I think it will help better if people of their own free will did their part to help the environment and each other. We don't need stringent laws or to be forced to do it. That will only breed resentment and hatred.
