Would the People of Earth unite against a space faring enemy?

In Avatar, Jake, Neytiri and others travel to the many other clans on Pandora, convincing them to go to war against the Sky People, or risk having their homes destroyed, families killed, etc... The clans (seemingly) agree without question to aid in the fight and commit all forces available.

Do you think we, as humans, would behave the same way? We've had so many disputes, so many different beliefs and differences...could we set all of that aside and unite against a common enemy that threatens our existence?

Do you think the Na'Vi have these similar differences going from one clan to the next?

Humans sadly pick fights with each other all the time, so even if friendly aliens show up it's likely someone wont like them and do something really stupid-like a terrorist attack-let alone hostile aliens.

We would as far as it goes. But we would soon get back to warring with ourselves... either over the spoils or becasue some nations army's are left crippled. The world is a divided house and therefore cannot stand. Take Aid in Africa for example... everyone knows we should do something massive to help them but no-one will due to polotics and pointless beauracracy

The OP clearly stated a Space faring enemy meaning a hostile alien force and not a peaceful alien envoy. And that being cleared out, the answer is yes they would unite just we have done to mitigate natural disasters and in an event that big everyone would forget their differences quickly as humanity is placed in survival mode. Now would that make a difference against such a threat? Well if they decide to just decimate us from orbit it would not mean a damn thing anymore than it would the Na'vi if faced with the same exact situation.

We might like to fight against ourselves, but would a force threaten the WHOLE WORLD, humanity would EASILY unite to fight it off.

Sadly I don't think so, I think people will just gather in little 'resistance' groups across the world. But who knows desperate times call for desperate measures...
