Why do people hate Avatar?

I do wonder why so many people dislike Avatar.

personally I feel that the main problems is that when you boil down to it, Avatar is rather Anvilicious about its message. Don't get me wrong, I get the message and respect it, I just wish it was delivered with a bit more subtlety. People don't like it went you force a message down thier throats, they don't like it even more if its a message they don't want to hear (an inconvenient truth). Combine this with Jaw-dropping visuals and advanced CGI that sucks people in, you gets lots of annoyed people complaining.

As you say, there are multiple factors. One was that someone made a huge mistake when they made the trailer. They have Jake Sully landing on Pandora with a voice-over about why he became a Marine. A great many people assumed that the Hell's Gate base was an American operation and all the soldiers shown there were US Marines. They refused to watch a film where the Marines are the bad guys and get slaughtered in the end. I know at least a dozen people in this category.

Others just assume that the movie is all special effects and no story.

Still others don't like the pro-environment, anti-business themes.

And plenty more just don't like being made to think.

Fortunately, there are enough of us willing to think that it was the biggest movie ever.

Plus I'd like to add my opinion... I hate that an Avatar Lover (not a fanboy) like me and you guys, gets so many types of labels and name-calling, and I'm just Not any of those labels, and the reason I know that's true, is because Before AVATAR, All of those labels I've been given, had never even occured to me or I personally didn't even know the existence of. AVATAR was a sudden Lightning in a clear limpid sky that opened my eyes on the fact my dreams could be Real, and that I wasn't alone anymore in my 'Utopic' dreams... AVATAR is a Unique Passion, I don't try and 'Categorize' it in Any way, as there is No Way to even do so, if not by saying that The Way of The Na'vi is the only Way for me, that's all <3

Anyone that attempts to do so, or looks at and judges Avatar under a Skyperson point of view and pre-conceived 21st century Monetary Morality, just wants to Dig out hatred, and find 'mistakes' and Envy people like us, in something that lacks all of those things. And even if someone does say anything wrong about AVATAR! What matters in the end?! The fact that the true People here, are connected in a special Bond, and We know what we are talking about, even if all the rest of humanity may be Skeptical or simply a 'Hater' towards a person like me, it doesn't matter...

i think the reason why people don't like avatar because they don't know a good story unless it hit them in the face.

by American movie standards if it doesn't have hot (human)women, boobs, Guns, a lot of explosions, fast cars and a meaningless story then its not a good movie.

on Rotten Tomatoes - 8 people out of 100 who've seen the movie don't like it, a 92% rating from 623,000 movie fans, not too many films rate higher

Perhaps this review can explain it best, because if you want to understand why people hate it you must listen to what the haters are saying.
(Avatar haters are a relatively small group of people with no lives)

Go read the YouTube comments to see more views from Avatar haters or just go to Google and type "Avatar was" and look at the auto-suggestions.

You can find thousands of hate sites where people come together to hate Avatar and its fans.

Basically what it all comes down to is you have a group of people who have never seen Avatar, but are outraged because their favorite movie that came out around the same time (District 9) did not get the same recognition, coverage, or overall attention that Avatar did. Almost all of the Avatar hater articles I've read were written by people who obviously never saw the movie and I say 'obviously' because they get easy facts wrong when explaining what Avatar is about that anyone who has ever seen the film would know. People have got to have something to complain about and when it comes to things like this you see a phenomenon I call "Whiny Little B!tch Syndrome" where the best products we're able to produce still aren't good enough for those who expect more.

Then you have people who are seemingly unable to just watch a movie without looking for messages.

When I watched Avatar I saw the best movie ever made with the best graphics available and with most the beautiful woman in the universe.

i agree,because there will always be haters. no one can teach them to See. and,yes,we love Avatar. hell yeahhh!!!
