Why did Tsu'tey need to translate for Jake?

You know the scene where Jake comes back with the great leo, and he ask Tsutey to help him translate what he's gonn say? Well as far as I know all of the na'vi know how to speak na'vi, so why did Jake need to say everything he said in english? Noone there would have known what he was saying (Besides the few Na'vi that were bilingual (Moat,Eytukan,Tsu'tey Neytiri). So why didn't he just say what he had to say in their language? What do you guys think? Really I think it was for us, idk maybe it sounds better in english?

^Simple, Jake only had a short time to learn to speak the language. I think he had three months immersion. I tried that with German back in the day and I could only make a simple conversation. But to say what he had to say, after just losing a close friend, with the proper cheerleading authority he needed, Tsu'tey was a good choice. I think that it also provided a good link to the clan...helped with the sales pitch. Not all of the clan would have been as fluent with English as some of the main characters. (JC had him speak English for our benifit since we did not know Na'vi)

Jake spoke English while he gathered the other clans, too. I believe that it was easier to understand for everyone when Jake could express his thoughts using his native language and trust someone who really knows how to speak Na'vi to translate it the right way.

I think it was partly out of respect too. By Tsutey agreeing to translate for Jake, it showed Jake wasn't just abusing Toruk Makto's power. Also, speaking in Na'vi would definitely convince the Na'vi better, especially when the speech is given in their native dialect.

I don't think Jake could speak fluent na'vi at that point so he asked tsu'tey who speaks it fluent to translate for him.

which makes him very much like Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. As he gathered support for the idea of Pakistan he would give speeches to people who's languagehis couldn't speak (he spoke mainly english). Yet the idea was so popular it happened.

Also depending on how closely Tsu'tey was translating (modifying certian phrases to be more appealing) its possible that many of the Na'vi who marched to war didn't really understand precisely what they were going up against or fighting for. Most of them would never had seen a human before.

As most of the others said I agree, Jake had learned Na'vi during his stay at Hometree, but to pronounce one of the most important, if not The most important speech of his life, to the people he Led at that point as Toruk Makto, whom they all respected and hailed to, it Had to Well Done, and he trusted Tsu'tey for that job Altough I must admit, just my opinion, that Jake expressed his words fluently and perfectly in his language ofcourse , but maybe Tsu'tey had the hard time, as we can't expect him to know english fluently either can't we; I mean, not that he couldn't do so, I mean he doesn't even like english and humans I'm pretty sure, so honestly I was surprised he even knew it in the first place. Probably as one of the main leaders of the Omaticaya people, it was decided by Eytukan and Mo'at that he and Neytiri aswell had to learn it to be able to communicate with the 'visitors'. Good on him
