Default Life Size Neytiri, Tsu'tey for everyone's home

earlier today, Porthos and me asked ourselves if there is a need/wish/market for life size Na'vi statues/dolls with certain features:

    - metallic skeleton for minimum frame stability
    - plastic casing, surrounded by a 0,5in (1,2cm) thick rubber coating, which resembles the skin and makes it feel like such
    - Joints at it's knees, thighs, hip, upper arms and lower arms - so it's fully movable to any position (standing, sitting on a table, lying, standing bended over)
    - Tail and Fingers are based on copper wire, coated with the rubber skin as all other parts of the body, so they are fully flexible
    - Overall weight, ca 30KG / 65LBS and very robust
    - 'real' hair - braided or unbraided (what would you prefer to see?)

The result would be something which would look pretty much exactly like Neytiri or Tsu'tey, any kind of clothes can be put on, loin clothes or a puffy winter jacket, would be the owners choice. The owner could sit next to a Na'vi on a sofa and watch TV, if someone would make a snapshot of them two and post it on the net, it would look epic for sure! I personally think a real size na'vi one is more acceptable as it would be hard to assume a dwarfed human sized na'vi to be realistic. And because they are flexible, they fit to any human dwelling, even they stand 10 feet tall (if they stand upright). Japanese, Chinese or Korean doll manufacturers could and would be able to produce them at reasonable cost.

    Now your opinion:

    1) Option A - Neytiri or Option B - Tsu'tey?

    2) Braided or unbraided hair?

    3) Align with FOX / JC (would be also a good marketing tool for them till Avatar II appears in theaters!), asking for copy right to produce them OR producing something similar, with other names?

    4) Do you prefer a simply doll as written above OR such one but with communicative capabilities and being able to walk and dance? In Japan there are several companies specialized on those sophisticated dolls.

It's just an idea at this point but it's doable. What do you think?

Thats why we should check the demand for it. If there is, then it could be really done. A life size na'vi next to you instead of a small plastic toy or stone made bust.

Neytiri will appear like this to the owner's (5ft) girlfriend. http://lh3.ggpht.com/_Sb38ouBuYxU/S-...nvergleich.jpg

I don't have a coat that would fit to put on my 10 ft tall Neytiri lol.

To get an idea of how tall a Navi is you simply have to look at the height of a basketball rim, that's tall! I have 8 ft ceilings in my house, Id have no where to put one quite honestly. Saying I had the room and had the extra thousands of dollars laying around to purchase one I'd want one like was made for the San Deigo Comic Con, non posable and the clothes don't come off.

I think to make one light weight and posable would be hard, she have to be able to balance, the sheer volume of a Navi with metal and plastic plus being produced for any kind of reasonable price would weigh a decent amount I believe. They'd need to so when the wind blows it wouldn't just fall over. If they were posable you'd need a ladder to make the adjustments lol. It's def not impossible but I don't think there would be a large market, shipping would probably be high, i believe it would need to be decently heavy, and I don't know many with room for one.

San Deigo Comic Con full sized Ney

    Legacy Neytiri

The closet thing I can think of that I know is for purchase and licensed is Legacys 30" (from base to top of head) Neytiri. It's $1,600, and weighs in at 28 pounds.

    @Wameyn
Well, if she would be just a inflexible statue like all large Neytiri busts and statues made so far, then yes, it would be a headache. But the suggested doll comes with flexible joints and it's hollow inside, just based on a firm skeleton. So if you want to reach her head, just 'fold' her - let her sit down. The above statue is a handmade one, unique model, that's why it's so pricy. If you get some thousand produced at an Asian contractor, things will look entirely different. A na'vi doll doesn't use much more space than ordinary shopwindow dolls. Easy to get 500 stowed in a 40ft container (lane cost per 40ft unit approx $3000) inc. all fees.

If she's so flexible and light that she can be easily moved wouldn't she tip over easily or not stand straight if she was easily moved? I'm not trying to be Debbie downer I promise, I'm just curious how you'd make it all work.

I roughly calculated it's weight at around 30KG /65LBS, since it's feet are (naturally) quite huge and coated with rubber, it's impossible for the life size Na'vi doll to fall over easily. However, I think in most cases, people will let them to be seated in somewhere, for instance at the table or sofa. As also said, she/he can be also leaned over on a shelf or cabinet. It would appear like the na'vi takes some rest after a run. Since she/he is flexible, all positions are doable!

I thought about this all last night. I would probably offer a Jake Sully Avatar instead of Tsu’tey just because Jake would be more of a draw and is the leading character in the movie. Even though there are a lot of people loving Avatar, a market for these large “dolls” would probably not be something for a mass production of over 1000 units. Even with FOX/JC backing, there would have to be a limited run of say 100 to “test the waters,” (marketing, art/design, tooling, production and shipment). If demand remains sluggish but we burn through 100 copies, then special orders could be done. It is, though, fully doable.

We also talked about having an interactive system where Neytiri talks to you with pre-recorded phrases. I also liked our idea last night of an internal heater system to provide a more life like feel as you sit with Ney on those cold winter nights under blankets while watching our favorite movie, Avatar, together. “I see you, Porthos” as her head is on my shoulder. Yes. I am a sick puppy!

Imagine what potential the markets for the na'vi dolls are like: some event agencies would definitely order some as well as some hotels or restaurants and malls, especially if they offer environmental sustainable products or services. Imagine a eco-friendly B&B in Florida or Costa Rica, which sits on a big chunk of tropical land and offers rooms with their own themes, one avatar room for instance. People are starting to wake up and feel the need to live with and not against the nature and the na'vi are a strong (marketing) symbol for this movement. And yes, all private Neyney and possible Jake or Tsu'tey fans (we need to really figure out who is more desired!) worldwide... will make up more than 1000 unites in my humble opinion. At latest when Avatar II is out, the breakthrough would come. In this matter, I'd be absolutely sure!
