Hmmm, i dunno, he said something about a dream, and something about every Sci-Fi book he ever read as a kid? I'm not exactly sure haha.
"Everything I'm not, is what makes me Everything I Am."
he dreamt it
He was probably sniffing lots of paint.
Kidding.
He has been to different parts of the world and has put some of that in it to make the movie. Some of his interviews state this.
> My sarcastic guess:
> He was reading Pocahontas to his daguther, when she said: "I'm tired of listening to Pocahontas! I'm 20 years old already! Gimmie something I'd like!". Then he came up with Avatar
> My real guess:
> He might've dreamt of a perfect society, then ported it to the future. He then added a conflict, and a solution. He brought up two protagonists a few deuterogonists and an antagonist, wrote a lot of ideas on a paper, then wrote a small story for the first movie and sent to Fox.
I was wondering if James Cameron ever studied Joseph Campbell. If any of you ever saw the "Power of Myth" or read any of his books, you'd understand what I'm talking about. George Lucas flat out said that Campbell was a huge inspiration for Star Wars and it would be hard believe if JC wasn't influenced by Campbell in some way.
Just curious...any Campbell fans out there?

I read that his design for the Na'vi was inspired by his mum, cos his mum had a dream of a being that was very tall and blue, I think the interview is on avatarmoviezone.com
