Well there are alternatives to the car....
Greyhound Bus (https://www.greyhound.com/default.aspx):
If you like a bit of an adventure there is a 2 days 5 hours trip by bus. Does mean 5 transfers though. Return jouney cost $234 with an advanced purchase
Amtrak (http://www.amtrak.com/)
If you want the train to take the strain and enjoy a land cruise there is a 2 days 3 hours journey, changing once in Chicago. The return jouney is $527.
Air (Various websites - just google):
This is the quickest way to travel (surprise, surprise!) at just under 5 hours! Return journey is in the region of $530.
Not sure how the above compare to the car as I'm in the UK and don't drive, but I hope it gives you some options if you really want to come and join us.

Last year, when I went to the June meet up was my first time travelling alone outside my own country and the first time I had been to another country since....errr....1989! Yeah, I don't get out much do I...Anyway I made it and I had the most amazing time and you will too
It's all in the planning. Make a list of the things you need to do and have and when they are needed by. For instance if you are not in the US do you have an up todate passport? Do you need a visa to get in? Check out here: Visas to find out more info.
If you are flying, now is a good time to book your flights as they are the cheapest they will be about now. The later you leave it the more expensive they will be. When I checked my flights before Christmas they were £991. When I checked again a week ago they had gone down to £818!
Another tip is to check out Google map to take a look at Seattle to see where everything is...even check out street view.

A bit of an update for folks regarding Avatar Meet 2012:
As you will probably know there is going to be a pre-meet up camp from 16th July to 19th July in the Olymic Peninsula. To help people get from Sea-Tac Airport to the campsite a shuttle bus has been booked. This will depart at approximately 17:00 (5pm) from the airport, although there will be a bit of flexibility.
It will then transport people from the campsite to Seattle (Best Western Excutive Inn Hotel) in time for AvatarMeet 2012 on 19th July.
The cost is $30 each way.

I live in a small North Yorkshire village but if anyone wants to have a meet up here you can stay in my house, I've got a double bed. The more the merrier you can stay as long as you like, I love to cook fries and nuggets and you can stay as long as you like.
I LIVE IN SEATTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
