Default Avatar Clan Meet Ups - first June, then July, next 2012!

    Kaltxi folks,

Some of you maybe aware that a number of us from the various Avatar fan forums, including this one, met up in Seattle at the beginning of June for the opening of the Avtar Exhibition at the Science Fiction Museum. It was an amazing experience to meet up at last having become friends through a fiber optic cable! I managed to capture the meet up on video and made a number of short videos to share. They are linked at the bottom of this post.

At the moment members from the LearnNa'vi clan are in Seattle having their meet up. Yesterday (Saturday 9th July) they took part in a panel discussion with the creator of the Na'vi Language, Paul Frommer. By the sounds of it they are having an outstanding time. You can find out more about what they are getting up to on their forum here:

    Seattle Meetup

There is also a transcript from the panel discussion on this thread:

09 July :: The Panel and Bilingual Q&A

Believe me it is an amazing experience to finally meet up and enjoy each other's company and talk Avatar until the wee hours of the morning. When it was coming to the end of the 4th June meet up there was one thing we all agreed on, and that was that we NEEDED to do it again.

So I hope this has wet your appetite as once the LearnNa'vi clan come back and get settled down we are looking to have a go at planning next years meet up. It will be in Seattle again as the Avatar exhibition will still be on then and there will be pleanty of opportunities for activities to be planned.

In the meantime here are the links to the videos from the 4th June meet up:

Irayo, Alan, for posting the LearnNa'vi link to the transcript of the Na'vi panel with Paul Frommer. It was great to read it...there were some very interesting questions and answers given at that panel.

To all who couldn't come and to all that had a blast in Seattle at either the June or July meetup:

2012 meetup is here, "the meetup of the clans", so "sign-on" now, even if you aren't 100% percent sure you can make it.

Here is what we know about the next meetup coming in 2012...
(nothing is for sure, and some things WILL change)
    Date: sometime in July 2012
    How Long: friday-monday???
What's going on: Avatar Exhibit at the SFM, Group Viewings of the Movie, Clan meals, day hike, explore Seattle...
Extras: Backpacking Trip (possibly camping trip instead) would be Tuesday-Wednesday??

Anyway, that is just an idea of what could happen, things are too far away to start planning too much. However we have started a list going of people that are interested in going. This will help us to determine the amount of people and planning and such...

It WILL be an awesome experience and hope to see you all there!
    -Aketuan

Oh and if you are interested in the meetup, you can sign-up for the newsletter at ikrannews@gmail.com

Hey, NAvi_Warrier, ma 'eylan, the trick is to pursue something you really enjoy as a job or career, whatever it maybe. Then you will never have to work again! Do you think James Cameron goes to work thinking "it sucks this life, I'm going to have to make Avatar movies until the day I die...!"? I don't think so.

You have an ocean of possibility, before you not a wasteland. You find life is more colourful than the picture you think it will present you. That's what life has taught me so far.

Anyway, as for an adventure how about joining us next year in Seattle. You have a whole year to save for it. Make it your goal, something to aim for. That's what I did and it happened! My first ever trip alone from the UK and the furthest I have ever been...and it was just an amazing experience that I cannot describe. Just meeting friends for the first time and carrying on as if we had known each other for years. Aww, you gota come along matey.

Thanks Alan, it means a lot to me, i know that there is more to life than what is present its just sometimes its hard to find, its like covered in a blanket of expectations of others like teachers, parents and society. they want you to be who they want you to be and not who you really are, to tell the truth I maybe a hardcore avatar fan in cyberspace but in real life i am afraid to show my passion for it, like i would never paint myself blue and pretend im a 8 foot tall cat-like person (Although i would dress as RDA soldier just for the fun of it because you have to admit in humans terms their bada$$) it takes a lot of balls to do so. mostly due to the fact that my family might think that im homosexual (which im not) and something, and friends might think that i am weird.

putting those things aside I know in my heart that its screaming to go out into the world and do stuff that makes me happy besides sitting at waiting for something to happen.

i know its good to find a job that i will be happy with, i think found what i was looking for, i want to a filmmaker, as good as or even better than James Camron because i want to make people happy and make them feel what felt when i watched Avatar for the first time.

and about adventure i will make a actual effort to go to your next trip, but there is some barriers in my way such as i would be extreme nervous because im just 17 years old (well i'll be 18 next year) kid who doesn't really know anyone here personally but im all for making new friends its just its would hard for me because everyone looks like they are in a higher age group than i am. as such i would be afaid to be myself , the only time i am my real self is when im acting or doing improv with people i know. but those are my personal barriers, here are my physical barriers:

    1. Money: money is the root of all broken dreams, i don't really have a job but i guess i could get the money from my parents if i explain to them that this is a "once in a lifetime" thing.

    2. Parents: my parents still have the majority control over my life, i can't even fart without their permission not only that they always worry about me (i know a parent should) their just too worried. Like i just told them that i am volunteering to be a sea Shepard after high school and they nearly fell over and die from shock.

    3. flying: i hhhhate flying, i never trusted a metal coffin that goes 200 miles per hour in the air at 55,000ft.

other than those things, sure i can go....hm listen to me, im such a loser, spilling my guts on a forum with people that i truly don't know.

    well anyway thanks for reading

    conor wall

P.S a sea Shepard are those people on the show "whale wars" who take direct action to illegal whaling and protects maine animals
