    Default Protecting Artwork!

    Hi guys,

For all the artists out there and those that love looking at fan art, please keep in mind the following:

If you use someone else's art as a signature or avatar picture...
Please reference the artist's name in your sig, and include a link to their website where you found it

If you use someone else's art in a forum post...
Please reference the artist's name and website in the post

If you post your artwork on this forum...
Be sure to clearly watermark your images to keep them safe from art thieves. Only post up low-resolution images. Watermark them clearly with your name/user name and website URL, on a section of the artwork that cannot be cropped out easily. If you need help with watermarking in Photoshop, msg me.

General Rule of Thumb: Ask Permission First.

A few years ago I had my art and parts of my identity stolen from DeviantART. That thief went on to impersonate me on a number of websites and tried to sell my artwork at conventions. It was a long headache of trying to hunt down the fake. I just want to avoid the same happening here, please respect all the hard work by these talented artists and give them credit where it's due!

That's the reason why I use watermarks on all of my artwork nowadays. I had a little problem with art theft as well, so I know.
It means "Wind Rider" in Na'vi.

"Wall-mounted keyboards? It must be THE FUTURE!"
    - Crow, MST3K "Space Mutiny"

"They set out from Plymouth and landed IN Plymouth! How lucky is that?!"
~ Eddie Izzard "The First Thanksgiving"

"There are many dangers on Pandora, and one the most stubtlest is that you may come to love it too much."

Sorry to hear that :( What's worse is that sometimes thieves will take your artworks and go to smaller art websites, like ElfenWood, and post them up there where there's a good chance no one will recognize it.

I think most people here taking art as their sigs don't have any ill intentions, but I just wanna make sure they credit it. I'd be pretty annoyed to see my artwork being used as icons/sigs without permission

That is very good advice, I didn't even think about it.
