My first glowplants!

Hi all, I'm new here! After lots of experimentation, I've finally perfected the process of making glow-plants! Figured anyone who loves Pandora at night might be interested in seeing this little project of mine. They look like normal plants during the day, but glow blue, green, violet, and teal during the night. The most difficult aspect was trying to make the end product look as natural looking as possible - like nature chose to do this just like it chose to give glowbugs, dinoflagellates, deepsea critters, and mushrooms bioluminescence. These are just one of many things I'm planning to eventually make my entire backyard glow at night. Enjoy!

These are beautiful. They're so bright and colourful. I'm especially suprised they look normal during the daytime.
I'm guessing you fed them some kind of liquid flourescent concoction?

Thanks for the compliments! Everyone loves these in person, I went to ship some out a while back and the girls at the UPS store went nuts over them The secret is that they are neither bioluminescent nor fluorescent. They are actually phosphorescent! I do have a BS in Biochem and understand the difficulties in splicing bioluminescent genes into plants, yet that will be a future project for me someday too. I love a challenge! Anyways so these are artificial flowers, but they look real during the day and Pandoran at night. I've even listed a couple on etsy

When I get to the actual real flowers and tropical leaves, the main issue is getting the genes expressed at an adequate level. Getting the genes into a plant is easy enough, actually having them express the phenotype is a game of chance.

they look pretty darn good for artificial plants. i would love to have some of these in my studio with my other artificial hanging vines and potted tree.
