    Default Tsu'tey's Greatness

Initially Tsu'tey comes across as sort of a jerk and definitely a rival of Jake's. But when Jake returns as Toruk Macto, we see Tsu'tey's true greatness. He has every reason to hate Jake: he stole his betrothed, he betrayed his people, etc. etc. Jake even stole his secret dream by becoming Toruk Macto. I have to imagine that every Na'vi boy and girl dreams of someday becoming the next Toruk Macto. It would be a natural fantasy to have. And so here comes Jake, having literally stolen everything from him. But Tsu'tey rises above his personal desires. He realizes that Jake could only have become Toruk Macto by Eywa's will. And he realizes that he has to put the interests of the Omaticaya above his own. And he does. This is the mark of true greatness. It's a shame he got killed.

Soooooooooooo true. I wish he survived because the way it ended for him, well all i can say is he is one poor bastard. I really felt sorry for him by the time he found out Neytiri mated with jake. But i think that reached a climax when Jake takes Neytiri's hand INFRONT of him and says "it would honour me by translating"...... I would have been annoyed if I was Tsu'tey. But he put that aside and did what was right for his people. in the end the Na'vi won and i guess that's what matters.

But if he did survive then I wonder what would happen. He probably would have felt like an outcast or a loner within the tribe due to how he conducted himself during the time of hating Jake. Maybe he would have left and reutrned to his original clan, or lived on his own?

I agree and ended up liking Tsu'Tey by the end of the movie, one of the little different twists in the story. Too bad he got killed.

Jake didn't "steal" everything from Tsu'tey, all he stole from him was Neytiri, everything else, Tsu'tey handed to Jake on a silver platter, both his leadership and life, neither which Jake wanted to take and was pained to do so.

I (as many here) have watched this scene intently time and time again. You can almost see a hint of <annoyance?> in Tsu'tey's eyes as he steps back when Jake asks him to translate; another sign of the great film making skills of JC. Even with so much kicking off at the time, Tsu'tey wouldn't have been able to totally disguise the turmoil he would have been going through due to Jake's arrival. There is that special point when he's translating when he turns to Jake with a grin: I think that's the point when the bad feelings are finally washed away.

An alternative would be that he would have a new and slightly different lease of life, having fought one the clan's greatest battles with Toruk Makto. I like to think Tsu'tey would still have qualified as one of the highest standing members of the People and continued his life on the back of that "glory" - if you can call it that.

Such a sad, sad outcome though...

Tsu'Tey is actually my favorite character, followed closely by Jake. The reason I like Tsu"tey, is because he cares so much for his people and land, and takes it upon himself to do anything for them.
