Default Trudy - the most moral/heroic character?

I really want to know why James sided her with the Na'vi, even though every other military personel - who don't have any other experience with The People other than violence - simply wants to get rich.
What is it that makes Trudy realize the virtue of the Na'vi, and that the humans are in the wrong? After all, she isn't in any way involved with the Na'vi, so why doesn't she think they are savages, like the rest of humanity?

i guess she just happens to be one of the very few open minded and eager to learn people that exists in that century. with the way the world runs in the 22nd century i guess barely anyone has time or even bothers to care for natural wonders of the world, but there will always be a few who do. Trudy just happened to be one of them while also being a pilot who flew the Avatars so i guess her personality is what made a friendship between her and Grace (or other scientists) possible which led to her caring about the Na'vi. Or maybe what little humanity was left of her decided to finally come out when they destroyed home tree and from then on it took over, forcing her to make those final decisions of freeing them from the cell and so on. i guess she is the hero of the day

Probably the time she spends with Grace, Jake, Norm...etc. She gets to see the non-propagandized version of the Na'vi. Seeing the straight dope probably helped her to see why what Quaritch was doing was wrong.

    Woah, there, fellas...

Trudi, if you look at the deleted scenes, was DOUBLE-AGENTing the then favourite to win the Na'Vi hearts Norm Spellman, was HANDLING the chosen of the Na'Vi tribes Jake Sully by making sure he sent his reports back to Quaritch in a timely manner... so, she's not without crime in this.

Trudi probably rebelled because she was one of the few aware of BOTH SIDES OF THE RDA GAME ... maybe guilt of her sinister role (edited from the release version) in the Na'Vi REGIME CHANGE ... which is what in effect happened, Eytukan DEAD, TsuTey DEAD, new leader in place Jake Sully ... we have no idea (even now) if Jake Sully is a MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE. Wonder is Cameron will use that card - he will if he's into dramatic set pieces somewhere down the A2 A3 line. But then he'll probably have Augustine/Eywa help him out of his programming or something...

woah,there,mike...lol...Jake is no Manchurian Candidate,as he was looking for one thing worth fighting for...the LOVE OF A GREAT WOMAN,and by extension, her people, her way of life, and her astoundingly beautiful planet. he found it,and the story will continue...

anyway, the Avatar CE is the definitive version of the film, and in a deleted scene that may as well be canon,Trudy is show as having doubt that Jake's tactics and training of the Na'vi air and ground forces, will save the day against the brutal, murdering thugs of the RDA/Secops. her doubt and questioning leads Jake to pray to Eywa at the Tree of Souls, which in turn leads Eywa to intervene at the darkest hour of the conflict, thus being instrumental in turning the tide against the skypeople barbarians. Trudy is as much a hero,as Neytiri,Jake,Tsu'tey, even Mo'at for her unceasing devotion to her deity. heroes all,in my book.

I think it is sad that trudie dies. I would love to see how the na'vi should "teach" her.

Good thread mate, as others said, it's probably just the time she spends with Grace, Norm, Max, and later Jake, being the 'science guys' Heli pilot, so she also saw more of Pandora's Beauty, and probably likes it a lot and realised it's a big mistake to want to destroy it... So that, added to her super-woman spirit and her open mind, made her choose the right side, against all the odds, she fought against her own people, with a lot of Guts, and died for the Na'vi too :( (Plus she's got a little somin' going on with Norm, you know what i mean if you got the CE and watched the deleted scenes XD)

you're right, in effect, that Trudi's a hero -- but would she have been so much of a hero had she not been part of a MANAGERIAL ROLE in the good vs evil war of assets that Avatar unveiled?

guilt, was that Trudi-hero's real motivating factor?

well, just because you're an insider doesn't mean you can't come to care for who you're going against. it's happened in many stories and the common thing is when this happens, the person always feals guilty. guilt = caring so yeah, i think you get my point
